Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 What kind of Indians fans are we talking about here? Twitter, sbnation blog, the replies to Ken Rosenthal's tweet. Obviously not a large group but the initial reactions are yes please.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Ah, so the run-of-the mill idiots. I suppose but I don't know where exactly to find the smart ones
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I suppose but I don't know where exactly to find the smart ones I tried to find them, but I couldn't.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Didn't "Billy Beane" actually go to Cleveland to negotiate a trade with Shapiro where he meets "Peter Brand"? I know there was the phone call scene too You think cash-strapped Oakland would fly Beane out for a routine trade discussion? Didn't happen, I recall reading (and it makes sense too). The discussion was real. But the scene was fake.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Upgrade over Beeston, and I would trust Shapiro to build a more saber-friendly front office than Beeston did (who was trapped somewhere between the 70's and 80's).
baubau Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 PLEASE. bring Carrasco too While he is at it, might as well bring that Kluber fella. I hear he's OKAY at this basebol game. Technically no since its a promotion and since they might be looking to make a change anyways. I highly doubt they would go full Angelos over this. At most maybe a David Carpenter-esque player. A side note, I think I was one of many (or what I believe to be many) who was willing to give up Pillar as compensation for DD last season thinking he'd just be a "throw in". I now realize if you are going to throw away something for a exec, throw away something that has years of proven sucking. Pretty happy that the O's went nuts with their demands and nothing ended up happening.
BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Wasn't Beeston a major player in us possibly finally maybe eventually getting a real grass field? If that's all he has done for the team in the past decade that's fine.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Shapiro (WAR$) first move will be fire Alex (Win ERA AVG)
baubau Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Looking at his history Shapiro has robbed some people. I know he is going to be more in the "business" side of things but its nice not having a total f***ing idiot in the game being President. Bartolo Colon for Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips and Cliff Lee Ben Broussard for Shin-Soo Choo Drafting on the other hand is not his forte. I admit I didn't look far back into 2001 but for the final few years the best players he got were Jason Kipnis and Drew Pomeranz.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Shapiro (WAR$) first move will be fire Alex (Win ERA AVG) Yep, and if Alex goes, Gibbons follows. Shapiro destroying the current front office/management and reloading with younger/brighter minds would be awesome. No more old school s***. Get with the times.
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Well, its not like we're the Dodgers. The unwritten rule among front offices (which dicks like Angelos don't follow anyway) is that you don't get in the way of promotions, a shift from Cleveland to Toronto with the same job title strictly speaking is not a promotion. So the Jays will make up a super duper phoney title and slap it on Shapiro so it appears as a promotion.

I doubt rogers would let him fire AA after making them all that money.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I doubt rogers would let him fire AA after making them all that money. Alex is a free agent. He can go elsewhere if he wants to as well, and I'm sure he'll have interested teams willing to hire him. I can't see them hiring an established guy like Shapiro and then forcing him to keep the free agent GM. Shapiro probably has his own guys in mind.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I doubt rogers would let him fire AA after making them all that money. ..but what about all the money he's lost them the past 2 years? I mean, if I had a contract with and gave my money to an investment banker and he looses 10% for 2 years in a row but got me 10% back in the final year, I am still firing him once the contract is up.
flafson Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Going to be really stupid if the first GM to send us to the playoffs in 20 years gets booted. Might aswell just tell the next GM, if you want your job, don't reach the playoffs.

Why would you fire someone after a successful year but not after the two unsuccessful ones? Doesn't make any sense.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Honestly based on the year AA has had I want him to be in control of our baseball moves. You just know by 2017 he will have this farm fully loaded again
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 The Indians have accomplished nothing despite being in the AL central
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Why are all Indian fans saying "good riddance?"
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Why are all Indian fans saying "good riddance?" BC they are not doing well this year
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Paul Beeston leaving the Blue Jays and joining the adult film industry as Rosy Bush. Possibly the very last human being I'd want to see doing porn.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Casey Blake for Carlos Santana Esmil Rogers for Yan Gomes and Mike Aviles The latter trade should probably be on Antonetti's resume, that was made while he was GM at least. But I'll add another. Michael Brantley for Sabathia Carrasco for Cliff Lee
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I've always generally been a fan of AA, but I wouldn't mind bringing in a new GM under Shapiro if they could simultaneously move AA into the scouting director's role (provided he'd accept it). Outside of that, I don't really see how you can lose him from the organization after a year where he picked up Donaldson, Tulowitzki and Travis in some very favorable deals. Especially when you know he can be the guy to restock the system.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Why are all Indian fans saying "good riddance?" Because it's the same thing everyone on here would be saying if he was our president right now.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Is he related to Todd Shapiro?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 No way he would accept a demotion. If AA leaves, he will get another GM job before the 2016 season. This past winter and trade deadline saved him. If he was on the market after 2014, then he may have had to wait a bit before getting his next shot, but if he leaves after 2015, then he will find work pretty easily. No way he sticks around if Shapiro gets the job. As far as restocking the system quickly, wasn't that in large part because of the prior draft rules that got changed? Without type B free agency and an unlimited draft budget, have the Jays really been all that great at drafting the past couple of years? It will take AA much longer to fix the farm system now than it did in 2010-13.
