scottishbluejay Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 As many of you know, I moved to Canada 3 years ago. I chose Toronto as a location to live in over Vancouver as I wanted to have a city which had MLB. Over 3 years I've been turning up to half empty stadiums and sitting on my own watching hit and miss baseball teams. Regardless of the results I had a blast. As I've only been here 3 years, you could call me a bandwagon jumper. But in fairness I couldn't really make games living in Scotland. I didn't have the money to buy a season ticket or flex pass this year and simply bought all my tickets off of stubhub. NONE of the Canadian guys at my work ever wanted to go to baseball. Now they are winning and look playoff bound, I can't afford the $60 a game due to all the people jumping on the bandwagon. I just ran down to the ballpark to try and buy a flex pass for the rest of the season and have since found they are sold out. The chances of me getting playoff tickets are about 0 out of 10. I can only imagine how pissed some of the guys who have been going for 20+ years feel. Anyway, next season I'm buying a season ticket. It's not economically worth it, but screw being in this situation again. Does anyone know if the Jays will have a deal where if you sign up for a season ticket for next year, you get the option of 2015 playoff seats? I know the Raptors done this. Screw bandwagon jumpers. Lets go Jays

scottishbluejay Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 I'm happy people are into baseball. I'm just sick that the people that refused to go to games now are stopping me from getting a ticket that I can actually afford.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I watch a lot of baseball because I like watching baseball. I like it when other people want to watch baseball too and talk to me about it. I'm not going to get angry that too many people in Toronto are suddenly into the sport. It's a good thing. If they really do make the divisional series, I'll have no problem shelling out $100+ or whatever for a playoff ticket. That isn't that much money in the grand scheme of things and who knows when the next Jays playoff run will come. if they jays go to the post season this year and can makes some good FA signings in the off season they could get back to the 4M+ attendance next year and that would be amazingly good for them financially.
JosJos Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 The bandwagon fans are an embrassing bunch. Booing coco crisp for no reason at all ughhh.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 They should somehow have a screening process for bandwagon fans and not let them sit in the first row. I was watching another game yesterday (Seattle?) and a ball got smashed down the line fair. Because it was fair, none of the fans reached over for the ball. It is so embarrassing that the idiots here are like magpies, don't care if the ball is fair as long as they get a shiny 5 dollar baseball before they are ejected for being retards.

I asked my account rep this question (I have seasons) as someone at work asked me the same thing. I was told "we're considering it". Keep in mind that season tickets are going to be a minimum of $810 per seat (for 500 level). So it's a decent chunk of change just to secure playoff tickets are face value. Then you will be obligated to buy a strip of playoff tickets, so tickets to every home game for the playoffs. Of course those you could sell on stubhub easily for large profits if you didn't go to every game.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Ask them if they miss JPA
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Yea I was looking into tickets for last night's game..they were all over 40 bucks. Not to mention the idiot scalpers who list tickets in the 500 dollar price range just for the f*** of it
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 It doesn't annoy you? I just don't see it nearly as much in other parks. Sorry I didn't realize you were serious. I though that was parody. I mean sure it annoys me (I guess in as much as I ever think about it) but the idea of a screening process is so over the top that I thought you were trolling.

Leonard15 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 The Jays fans in & around Toronto have also had a desire to attend games but were driven away by poor play post 1993. I am a Jays fan but stop watching post 1993 b/c of unbearable play and also b/c I don't follow much MLB outside of the Jays. Keep in mind I will watch non Jays games that has implications on them e.g. Yankees. The bottom line is that losing baseball is not fun and thus if fans can't have attend meaningful games then you might as well stay home. Up until this season the only reason I had to attend a Jays game was for social purposes as I paid very little attention to the games. Also if you really want affordable seats that badly then I suggest you go on tickemaster as soon as the season starts and purchase games well in advance. You can also still do that for September games and you don't have to worry about other fans getting seats b/c if you snooze you lose.
youngtea Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Meh winning brings pride and higher attendance. If you rather have no bandwagon jumpers than go cheer on a crappy team. There are no teams that are winning consistently that don't have bandwagon jumpers.

Which is fine, better that the stands are full but they probably are more fans of winning than fans of baseball.
nmrch Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Bandwagon fans make money for the team, i don't see how "true" fans should do anything but welcome them. Rogers needs to be convinced of the market potential in order to move us into the upper echelon when it comes to payroll. And its nice seeing Blue Jays jerseys and shirts everyone in the city. I walked past the Jays shop yesterday at the Eaton Centre and it was packed, lots of kids there with their parents, and a lot of young fans 18-30 buying s***.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Screw bandwagon jumpers. Lets go Jays Seems like something a bandwagoner would say. Just giving you a hard time !

Only around 2006-07 did I really begin to get a full understanding of how everything works in baseball and actually really was able to form my own legit opinions on the Jays.

Leonard15 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Part of the reason why the Jays have so many bandwagon fans can be attributed to the fact that many folks don't care about the MLB outside of the Jays. I basically put the MLB at the bottom of the 4 major leagues that I watch with the NFL coming at the top and then followed by NBA, NHL, and then MLB. Keep in mind I watch the NFL regardless of who's playing aside from being a Niner fan I'm an NFL fan first but the same can't be said with the other 3 leagues as for the NHL I only care for the Red Wings, NBA Raptors and MLB Jays.

This is a huge opportunity for the Jays organization to get back into the top of attendance.

Agree and also I'll add that up until 1993 the Jays had become more popular than the Leafs b/c one team was winning and the other was constantly losing. Also I should add that other team is still constantly losing lol!

93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I've watched this team day in and day out for over 35 years and I take my girls at least 3 times per season to catch games. Which is kinda dumbfounding because you'd think they'd at least get the basics after watching so many games. My 11 year old still has no comprehension of the game whatsoever. A run is a goal and a fly ball that is caught is still a home run apparently. A chip off the old block I must say! Great to see fans like the OP who follow this team even when the chips are down.
