Outside of Alomar, I can't think of a former player that wasn't treated well by the Toronto fans when he returned.

...maybe Clemens too. I don't recall how fans reacted but I can understand if there was disdain.

Hill? Like... most ex Jays have been booed... It's not cool.

Just for his first at bat. A nice reception of appreciation; for playing hard and bleeding blue while here. Than after that, he goes to being the "them" of us against them. :)

I don't really care that much. He was an average-ish player here who wasn't around for long. The only reason people care is because he's Canadian and handsome.

You just described 60-70 percent of all professional athletes.

60-70 percent of professional athletes don't get a standing ovation when playing their former team.

Agree completely.

Objectively, he might be a douche, but he's still one of the best current Canadian ball players, and a guy who probably tried too hard as a Blue Jay.

The crowd reaction to him will say something about Blue Jays fans, collectively. I'm not sure exactly what, but something.

Already says tons about them every time Rios comes back.

Clemens had every right to be pissed at management thats not what he signed him up. Those Blue Jays teams f***ing sucked after signing the best pitcher in Baseball. The days when attracting top free agents must have been nice. The US players not wanting to play in Canada complex didn't exist either.

That 1998 team was a playoff calibre team. Easily. Hell, with a 2nd wildcard, they would be, and I still think they're better than those Red Sox. Had Fernandez, Sprague, Stewart, Green, Delgado, and Canseco in the lineup with a killer 1-2-3 in the rotation of Clemens-Guzman-Escobar (Carpenter wasn't exactly a scrub either). That should've been a playoff team. Still hate that idiot "Vietnam vet" Tim Johnson.

Which still doesn't make any sense to me. The truth has been skewed but from what was explained he actually politely declined the autograph to the kid after a rough game. The kid didn't give a s*** and walked away and some random 40-year started calling him a bum and that guy is f***ing hero and Rios is a douche bag because he said who gives a f*** about one bad game lol.

Maybe people questioned Rios effort at times. But it was nothing different from how Rasmus played and people here really seemed to like him. I'm still pissed off to this day how that relationship soured because everyone was pissed one night.

It sucks... you're in the spotlight and one bad incident is caught on camera, you're fubar. People just remember you for that. Rios is probably a bit of a douche but I'm sure there are many worse.

If you're famous you're supposed to be perfect, as perfect as the little angels who are constantly judging you.. and if any sign of being human comes out, you're toast.

I mean I can understand if you make a career out of being an *******, you deserve it then..but a bad moment here and there.. big deal.

Yes.

Though pretty sure Clinton's approval ratings are the highest these days despite 'the incident'.

I guess losing your temper and being a dick is judged more harshly than using it and cheating on your wife.. I mean I know it was Hillary, but still.

I met Rios in Dunedin at their annual meet & greet after one of the game where fans (that buy tickets for this) all get to line up and get autographs, meet the players and have lunch served by the Jays players. Rios was a massive douche at it as well. He utterly hated his life the entire time he was there and of course he left early. He was the only player there who noticeably displayed how much he hated interacting with the fans. FYSMC Rios.

He's Canadian. He played hard. He"ll get some appreciation for sure. In the meantime #fysmc

I think fans are naturally jealous of the money athlete's make playing the game they love, probably even more than the athlete. When an athlete signs a big contract and than doesn't produce the results, fan's jealousy of that money is increased exponentially. It's a paying fan's option to boo or cheer.

I started this thread because, I think fans have the opportunity to show new current Jays the class and intelligence the real baseball fans of the Jays have. Danny V and Brett deserve a show of appreciation,in their first at bats. I won't be at the game tonight, but I would be proud to be a Jays fan, if some of the fans who are, share my feelings.

There is nothing better than being passionate about sports, and winning with class.

Is this a myth? I've yet to meet a chick who's been in love with Lawrie. Maybe teenagers like his tats and red bull energy.

Can only imagine the outrage if players treated fans the same way fans treated players. Rio was often treated like crap by the fans, no wonder he didn't like sitting there for hours signing autographs.

You mean how fans buy their jerseys, baseball cards, etc. of their favourite players? How they cheer for their favourite players, take trips to Cooperstown to see their favourite players in the HOF (if they are lucky enough)? I think for the most part - players have it pretty good. You work hard, play hard and the vast majority of fans love and adore you. It must be tough.

Do some players get s*** on? Of course they do. You'd think an event like that would be a good opportunity for Rios to show the fans he's not a dick. I guess some people just see things a different way. I get players must hate signing things for guys who just turn around and sell it for profit, but it can't be that difficult to enjoy being around some young kids and fans who are excited to meet you and to get a ball signed. Tough life.

A message to Blue Jays fans.....when he played us in Oakland

Not a fan of Lawrie, but I am a fan of his happy little Bob Ross shirt there.

Was he really that much of a jackass? He threw a helmet at an ump, big deal, he deserved it.

Wasn't he the one who got all piissy at Lind for not running from third on a pop fly just over 2nd? lol

I'm not understanding this either. I've never found him remotely attractive, and I'm usually all about guys on this team.
