Laika Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Just watched a bunch of Park video to form my own amateur scouting report. WOULD. BUY. Swing actually reminds me of Donaldson. I'd spend $50M on him, comfortably.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 We won the posting right Cyborg seems to be implying this
Cyborg Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Cruz was a great guy. Brought the interns back a bottle of rum from dominican and some coffee.

With some of the recent success of these guys, how come there seems to be such little interest and low bids? $13M bid wins it? Plus salary, even if he flops, how is that a fantastic gamble?

Not too far off from Kang's %. 50HR the last two seasons. But Eric Thames is also mashing there, so I get that. But still seems like it would be a decent gamble.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Wow the Tigers are hiring Jay Sartori to run their analytics.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Wow the Tigers are hiring Jay Sartori to run their analytics. Says a lot about AA and analytics. Sartori didn't want to run that show in Toronto, obviously. I guess being "Senior Director of Baseball Operations and Analytics" is a lot better than being "Senior Director of Sheehan, Pare, and maybe 1 or 2 interns depending on the month"

Just Sheehan.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Toronto analytics system and department is much larger than Tigers. They had nothing until 2 months ago. Literally no analytics department. Now they have Sartori + a guy I know. 2 people.

Kiley McDaniel was saying on a podcast a few weeks ago that the ceiling for a pure analytics guy in an MLB org is basically director of analytics. I'm surprised someone like Sartori would leave a good job with apple to run a 3-person division with a glass ceiling.

There are the nerd types who aren't that personable that will have that ceiling though.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Apparently the Tigers are hiring Chris Long (former Padres analytics guy, active on Twitter) too as a consultant. Interesting.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Can someone write about Happ (GD maybe)? The fan and media reaction is terrible; they need someone to set them straight with facts. A good article would get great readership imo.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Has to be GD. I am in the weeds right now with finals and a massive term paper

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 FRIAS and TIPS are now both property of the Toronto Blue Jays
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I'll run FRIAS tomorrow Jacob, thanks for asking for it and reminding me. I was going to release FRIAS with the Saber Resource rollout but that can't happen now. I may continue to run SR as a private site though and will look into how much more time it would take to get the FRIAS and TIPS calculated properly.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) Alright I ran FRIAS in R using the models from pre-2015. I sent the results to Nick and Jacob and can send them to others (along with the R file and input CSV) on request. As before, it's important to remember that FRIAS doesn't try to be a full projection system. It doesn't regress rates based on sample size. It just says "what DIPS talent level did the pitcher display in the season?" If FRIAS was being first created this offseason, it would be called HILL (Hurlers' Intuitive Latitudes Leveraged) in honour of Rich. Edit: A few of the TBF and IP numbers are messed up because of name differences. I can re-send if needed with the fixes. Edited November 29, 2015 by NorthOf49
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2015 Author Posted November 29, 2015 I need to find time to write. So swamped
