Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Interesting choice of rebuttal. I would have likely attacked the moronic nature of reference a one game sample size, but to each their own. I probably should have gone that route, but it doesn't hurt to point out that talking about a pitcher's performance against a much different lineup is pretty dumn in itself.

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 First day on the forum in a bit, can someone explain why the FO DFAed Valencia instead of Colla? I do not get this at all for so many reasons. Please explain this confusing move to me... Also, I would have optioned Loup as the other move. He's garbage right now.

This team should have a lot better record.

As long as doesn't face right handed power bats, I'm not unhappy.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Good. He shut us down when we faced him in Oakland a year or two ago. he's also 0-2 with a 5.21 ERA vs. the Jays for his 19 inning career against the Jays.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 They need to learn to close those games out. There's nothing to learn, unless you think the Royals have something to learn about closing out games too considering the previous game involved a Toronto comeback. Sometimes guys get knocked around. Sometimes errors get made. That's baseball.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 88-74. From here on out, 35-22.

That's baseball. look at the jays record in 1 run games..coming up with the key hit, not making mistakes, moving the runner over, not scoring with a runner on third with less then 2 out...the jays have failed at this more often then not in close games. Look at winning teams 1 run game record...there is something to learn. Look at the royals, how they focus on just making contact instead of going for the big hit in key situations.

nextyear Verified Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I'm looking forward to watching Norris pitch for the Tigers today. Would be nice to see him do well. Agreed. I always hope for former Blue Jays to do well after being traded. Luckily Norris won't be pitching against the Blue Jays so there is no conflict.

They win close games in the most effective way possible: by scoring a ton of runs to put the match out of reach. This means that the game has a minimal chance to be swung by a stupid bloop single or whatever else happens when the Rays play. This 1-run game narrative has got to stop. The Blue Jays score more runs than any other team. The pitching has also given up as many runs as many really bad teams. This is why they're +1 .500 right now, not because the offense sucks. It's also reflected in the relative lack of saves Blue Jays' ninth inning guys have. When they win, they win considerably and any sane person would have it this way. "Good win, but I wish the Orioles could have scored one more time so the Jays could have improved their 1-run W/L total..."

No it doesn't, it's been a big issue season for the reasons I stated above. Good teams don't have terrible 1 run game records. Good luck in the playoffs in tight low scoring games.
