JamesFord92 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Jesus. A 10 page thread on this move after most people bitch when Valencia was put in the lineup. I don't love this move either, but not every move is as simple as looking at the fangraphs page for two players and picking the one with the higher number in the far right column. It's not like this undoes all the deadline moves that were made, it's not going to break our season. Keep it in perspective people. Nice to see Kawasaki back, hopefully David Price falls in love with him and resigns with us at a steep discount so he can be around his energy for the next 7 years Yes, but people are pissed off about how indefensible the move is, even if it's comparably small to the other moves that were made this week. No baseball front office should be making moves this bad, no matter how small they are. If someone could provide any logical reason to keep Colabello (or an 8th reliever for that matter) over Valencia I'd be interested to hear it.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Valencia to Boston for cash consideration
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Why do we have an 8 man BP? AA said he'd "consider" going down to 7. Sounds like he doesn't know too much about how to best construct a roster. my guess is he would "consider" it if they get continued length from their starters. Extra innings used up some arms, that could have been a factor.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 My god this team is incompetent. These clowns really make it difficult to root for the jays

But not every move a FO makes will make sense and sometimes there are other factors that we don't know about. At the end of the day we've made some very impressive moves as of late and I'm not going to s*** all over our FO because of one rather insignificant decision in the grand scheme of things. That said, I can believe that this was influenced by Gibby. I also don't believe that there aren't any other moves to come from this.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Pompey up, Colabello DFA at some point in near future.... if not this is a f***ing joke.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 I'm f***ing pissed off right now, Gibby's fetish for Colabello the useless piece of s*** is bordering into insane territory

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 It pains me to say this as a Gibbons hater, but I think it's AA who is being untruthful here. Gibbons doesn't give two shits about defense, never has. He'll put anyone in the field if he feels it will improve the lineup. This was an AA move all the way around. How does that prove that it's not Gibbons? It proves entirely that this is Gibbons call, because he would prefer Colabello to Valencia, when Colabello is f***ing garbage on defense everywhere.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 It's dumb either way. No team needs 8 relievers. Valencia is Zobrist-lite
LTR Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 I don't think it's as bad as people are making it out to be. Most of Colabello's woos were from playing LF, at least that's never going to happen again *knock on wood*
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Who is the backup 3B now? Corner Infield: Andy Burns
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Valencia is Zobrist-lite Lets not push it

Most of Colabello's woos were from playing LF, at least that's never going to happen again *knock on wood* and what happens if one of our outfielders gets injured? at least Danny could play LF in a pinch, Colabello is a f***ing waste of space
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Corner Infield: Andy Burns Who?
LTR Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 and what happens if one of our outfielders gets injured? at least Danny could play LF in a pinch, Colabello is a f***ing waste of space Yeah... I'm not defending this move by any means, I'm just not sure it's quite as egregious as people are making it out to be.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 ok... just speculating. It's possible that Danny V didn't want to be a bench bat. He might want to see if he can get picked up by another team that will play him regularly. If he stayed he might not have gotten those chances. Cola is going to be a bench bat I hope.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 God, I hope Travis is back sooner than later... line-up is that much more redonkulous with his bat in it.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 It's dumb either way. No team needs 8 relievers. And if we still have 8 relievers mid week then I'll start questioning it more, but I feel as though there's more to come from this. Justifiable or not, the fact that we used 6 relievers last night probably crept into their thinking. If he's claimed, it's not like we automatically lose him from my understanding. We can still pull him back to the big league club (unless we trade him) can we not? My hope is that we see him again soon. If I'm mistaken on the process, then correct me
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 No, you can't pull him back if he's claimed.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Schultz should have been optioned if Gibby wanted his pet Italian that badly. Things Valencia does better than Colabello: - Plays better defense at 1st/OF - Hits lefties better - Can actually play 2B in the case of an emergency What the f*** does Colabello offer over Valencia? Hitting righties a bit better with that ridiculous babip?
souvlaki Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Valencia + Tirado + Cordero for Revere f*** this team Don't forget: + Kratz (+Hendricks) for Revere
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 No, you can't pull him back if he's claimed. Ugh, so what's the 10 day window mean in this case? that we can try to work out a trade before then?
LTR Verified Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 May I remind people that we should never see Colabello in LF again...
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Pompey makes the most sense, but so did keeping Valencia around as a backup corner infielder with Goins as the middle infielder. Back up corner fielders in case of emergency Smoak Batz or EE or when travis comes back Goins too!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 How does that prove that it's not Gibbons? It proves entirely that this is Gibbons call, because he would prefer Colabello to Valencia, when Colabello is f***ing garbage on defense everywhere. Alex doesn't win regardless. He either made a stupid decision that he let an idiot decide for him, or he made the stupid decision himself. He doesn't look good in either scenario. The only reason I said it's on AA is because Gibbons called Revere a platoon player less than 24 hours ago and then Valencia is gone. Now AA admits that the decision to use Revere everyday was something they decided on later and Gibby picked between Valencia and Colabello. I could see Gibbons making a stupid decision like that, as like I said he doesn't look at defense at all, but then that leads back to why did AA have to listen to him? I'm absolving Gibbons of all blame here. You can't hand a gun to a chimp and then get mad when the chimp shoots someone. AA is 100% liable here.
