TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'd like to mention that while I don't think this is a good baseball move at all, I'm not upset. This isn't the Dickey move, where I was utterly despaired from beginning to end; you can't not be stoked to see David Price in a Jays uniform. If we miss the playoffs though...
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 All I know is I'd, simultaneuously, rather have Price/Tulo over Cueto/Zobrist and Manaea/Finnegan over Hoffman/Norris. So I don't know how you can be a fan of what the Royals did while hating what the Jays did. They're in a much better position to make a deep playoff run, the Jays still need A LOT of things to go their way.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 You don't have to be a fan of what the Jays did, but based on that Boxy quote, if anybody is actually picking the Royals' recent haul over the Jays, they're extremely dumn.

admin Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Don't hate it. BUt if you're going all in, you go all in. Didn't like the Dickey trade. Didn't like the Marlins trade. But I don't mind making this trade at this point. Hope we can re-sign him. That being said, this is a buyer's market. Probably could have found someone not quite as good but a lot cheaper.

I'd have agreed with you like 3 days ago. I think if the Jays play to their talent level, with Pineda going down...pretty decent shot at the division and I think they have to be WC favourites.
LTR Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 we are 2 games behind the twins for that second WC. I would hardly call that outside shot. 26.3 % WC chance, 34.0 % play off chance = outside chance Granted this went up a bit with Price http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx?type=2&lg=wc&date=current
cusstown Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'd say we're better on paper than the Royals right now.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 AA got the arm he needed to start the WC game. That was my biggest concern and he addressed it.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I voted yes, but I'm not sure it really matters. Daniel Norris' Lord has made this deal happen, who are we to argue?

Yeah at least this team finally has a DIRECTION. They started to go all in with the Marlins and Mets deal and then they herped derped around for a whole other season before finally continuing the push. This is definitely better than that.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 That guy who posted on reddit a few days ago and said he had a friend that works for the Jays, he commented that their #1 priority would be David Price, and that if the Tigers made him available, they'd "open up the farm". It looks like that's exactly what happened. It could still be sheer dumb luck that he predicted that, but if there was any merit to his comments, then we can also possibly expect a Navarro trade; he said they had multiple offers lined up, and the one they picked would depend on which major trade they made.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Maybe just keep Navarro now Wouldn't want Thole starting BC of an injury

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 The guy I'm talking about ended up deleting his reddit account and all his posts, but I provided a pretty close summary to all of his comments in this post a few days ago: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/4916-2015-Trade-Deadline-Targets-Thread?p=662555&viewfull=1#post662555 Seems that he also correctly predicted the Jays hesitancy to trade for Cueto (Reds wanted Hoffman), and almost exactly how much money the Phillies were going to include in a Hamels deal (he said 30-35M, and that's just about how much they gave the Yankees, in terms of money sent, and the Harrison salary dump).

They went half way in after that trade and still had holes. Get someone in LF and we're pretty solid.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Love the talk on Baseball Central right now. Price gets to pitch in a park where he has never ever lost (9 starts)...5 minutes later, I don't think Price's lack of playoff success is a big deal (10 games)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Exactly. They went half way in after that trade and still had holes. Get someone in LF and we're pretty solid. LF isn't even that bad if they call up Pompey but a veteran option and Pompey as MiLB depth would be better. Surely there's an expiring contract they can pick up at no great expense.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 If we sign Price and the rest bust it could be the greatest trade in our history, next to Tulo.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Not a big fan of the trade, especially for a rental. They shoulda just signed Shields as a FA.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 We don't even need a pitcher this good. We just need a guy who can put up an ERA/DICE/FIP in the low 4's, with the ridiculous offense we have. This deal reeks of AA sacrificing the future of the Jays to try and make the postseason to try and save his job. .500 teams really shouldn't be trading good prospects away for 2 month rental pitchers.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm glad that it finally dawned on AA that pitching is an important part of a baseball team - only took six years for him to realize that. If we don't have a deep playoff run or at least get Price re-signed, though, trading Norris is going to look really bad.

Brenner Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Too much for a rental, I'm sure the same package plus a little could have gotten a quality arm with term.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm definitely not a fan of this trade unless we can resign Price. However, I'm sure gonna enjoy watching him pitch for the next 2 (hopefully +) months. I think for what we gave up, we should have been able to get Cespedes as well or something.
