You sure about Cole and Degrom? Pineda and Anderson had labrums i believe. All i am saying is that there seems to be diminished returns on tj'ers.

Yes, they've both had it in the past, and Anderson among his many injuries also underwent TJS. Like Dinger said Jose Fernandez is back and he's as good as ever.

Edit: it looks like Cole never had it, for some reason I thought he did. My mistake.

Jose Fernandez just came back from Tommy John throwing harder than ever, getting more whiffs than ever, more groundballs than ever, and has only walked 1 batter in 19 IP. Likewise, Matt Harvey's post-TJS stuff is completely intact.

Throwing harder than ever because his timing is probably even worse. I bet Fernandez goes down again within the next five years (although as an organization you probably wouldn't care about that, unless you had him signed to a mega extension).

Fernández is in another level. Best pitcher in baseball very soon.

Yes if he holds up. If he hasn't changed his terrible mechanics what makes you think he'll survive in the long run.

Fernández killed a shark at very young age.

There are several better defensive centrefielders in the majors right now and categorizing Pillar as an elite defensive talent isn't fair to him. He's making the most of his tools and has been a great story this season but let's not go overboard.

Fair enough. Kiermaier is definitely an 80 from what I've seen. I just think 60 is low for Pillar... 65 it is, sold.

Hesitant on Fiers... After the whole Dickey debacle I'm terrified of the words "flyball pitcher"

The thing about Dickey is it wasn't just a park change, he just got worse (likely due to age or perhaps lack of motivation/training). His velocity dropped, walks went up, strike-outs went down... none of that is related to park.

I can't get too excited about Mike Fiers.

I think the Blue Jays should give Felix Doubront a chance. He has a better win-loss record than Mike Fiers and the strikeouts per nine innings aren't that different - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/doubrfe01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fiersmi01.shtml

PS: Marco Estrada has comparable stats to Fiers and better win loss record - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/estrama01.shtml . I think Estrada is a better comparison to Fiers than Doubront since both Estrada and Fiers pitched in Milwaukee.

Fiers isn't a sexy acquisition, but it's hard to argue with his numbers. Certainly would be a hell of an upgrade over Doubront.

If the Blue Jays can get another Estrada-like pitcher without giving up too much talent then I think they should get him. But I hope they won't include Pompey in such a trade. I like seeing a young Canadian with potential on the Blue Jays.

In all seriousness you have the right comparison in my opinion...but not for the reasons mentioned.

When did he get cut - back in college or something?

I think it's just an inevitability so might as well include him

I think that's a reasonable assessment, I'd agree.
