Guys, Pillar had a nice 1st half but to automatically assume he's a better defender than Gomez is a serious homer call. Pillar's career UZR/150 in CF is 9.2 thru 772 innings, Gomez is 14.7 in over 7000 innings.

I wonder what Albert Almora's will be.

it's a year and half of gomez jesus

1.5 years of an elite player+ 2 draft picks + I think 4 years of Mike Fiers is worth that. You're kidding yourself if you think its not

Calling up Pompey is the best overall choice at the moment

Pompey is no where near ready.

Fiers has not thrown more than 120 ish innings in the big leagues in any season yet. Not worth what you think he is.

Actually Pillar is a pretty good comp for his skillset. 50-55 hit, 45 pow, 55 speed, 60 D.

But Jeff Hoffman who couldnt even strike out high A ball players as a 22 year old is the next Halladay right?

60 D? Come on dude... Pillar is a 70 D, maybe higher. And you can't even look at UZR the SSS is not large enough.

His scrapiness is like a 65 best, Pillar's is 80 grade. Meh.

The day we trade Hoffman I'm gonna take LTBF off IL just to watch his meltdown. Can't wait

So Fiers is the next Halladay...lol

Way to completely miss the point. Fiers strikes out nearly a batter per inning at the big league level while Hoffman struggles to get 6 K/9 as an older player against much inferior competition.

Odds are easily against Hoffman ever becoming as good as Fiers is right now, and a lot of that is just from the usual attrition rate for pitching prospects.

So are we asking ourselves would we do Hoffman for Fiers straight up? I'd prob do that.

Is it fair? Depending on Fiers' control maybe, without looking at his stats and maybe if he has like 4 years of control, but in terms of market value we could get so much more.

Edit: Overlooking him no it's not fair

I understand the point. I just don't agree with it. If we trade Hoffman it needs to be for an ACE. Not the equivalent pitcher as Estrada.

Yeah that's not happening, but if you were to get an elite player in Gomez as part of a package then you need to have Hoffman available.

Fair enough, i also trust Fiers to stay healthier. Gets k's only throwing 90 is nice. Hoffman throwing 95-97 coming off tj is a major health concern.

Can't acquire Gomez. It would upset team morale. Gomez/Pillar each want CF.

Pillar would have to STFU and move over to LF and give us an insane upgrade in outfield defense.

You don't just move a guy who has been one of the best (if not the best) CFs in the game to LF.

Pillar has been very good but that guy in TB has been THE best. We are .500 and in a race and our OF depth and D is one the reasons we cant break through. Cant worry about Pillar's ego. We are already too worried about Reye's psyche.

Move Pillar to left and give Saunders some ABs against RHP when he comes back.

Hoffman doesn't reaches his prospect value yet. We will trade him next year for Carlos Carrasco or Salazar

Starting to get concerned AA will need to overpay with prospects because he is forced to go after players not getting paid.

Gomez really doesn't fit in with the Jays. Sure he's a nice player but for the cost you could get someone who will give you more value.

We don't really know what the cost would be, and who could we realistically say that we can trade for that is better? It's nice to think that hypothetically every player is available for a fair package, but a lot of high value players simply aren't on the block.
