I think the worry that they would hire someone even worse is legitimate.

Beeston was hired while Ted was still in charge at Rogers. The question is if Rogers will replace Beeston with someone who knows baseball and is willing to hire saber help. If that happens then we might have a chance of getting a good GM. If we get a good GM we might get a good manager...

ifs and buts

if we are lucky AA is remembered for deviating from "the plan" of creating a sustainable winner for an all in and take on bad contracts while selling off your farm outburst.

If we are unlucky AA will be remembered for running into the iceberg and sinking the ship.

I hope he doesn't empty the rest of the farm on a pipe dream.

I think the fact that KC really had to pay a lot for Cueto is a blessing for us as it should discourage AA from slaughtering the farm for a rental, which was always my biggest concern heading into this trade deadline.

that one move for KC could win them a world series. If the jays made the same move we'd still only be an 82-84 win team. makes no sense for us to do it, but then common sense isn't always used as a tool in the decision making.

But it could also blow up in their faces if Cueto's injury concern rears its head or if they pull a 2014 Athletics. And yes we are not in that position at all.

TL;DR, rentals are pretty much a no-go or should be if AA isn't looking to add to the clown car going forward.

Lucky KC is deep in pitching prospects.. but yes, Cueto must stay healthy. Royals cannot afford to end up sending guys like Young, Volquez, Guthrie or Ventura out in a playoff series if Cueto doesn't go, especially if it ends up vs. the Angels or Yankees (they got swept at Yankee Stadium earlier this season, BTW.)

Who do you think is the favorite to win the WS mister jaysfan2014?

Cardinals. I can't see the Royals going deep even with Cueto.. they've still got multiple holes in the starting rotation of guys who will get hammered vs. the Yanks, Angels, and whoever wins the wild card. I mean, before Cueto's addition, they've got 4.30 ERA in starters (Jays are not far behind at 4.37). Bullpen isn't going to keep bailing them out.

Loup is 6.85 erA AGAINST RIGHTIES. In the past nine days I think Gibby has prob. cost us four games, going back to the Friday bullpen use in Tampa. And why no Travis today? How many times has he rested position players when we have a day off??? I could not believe that Loup was left in. Shi, don't say "Gibby's hands were tied," in your stupid apologist's article that we need to accept as fact unless you mean Gibby was too paralyzed to make the correct decision. Cecil would have even been a better choice if Gibby were "saving" Osuna and Hendriks. Just disgusting. Loup was almost a F. Rodney forgone conclusion. Let us get Hentgen, Alomar (Robbie, Sandy, or even their respective spouses!) A shakeup can't hurt. In fact a few players might appreciate it.

Gibby's hands WERE tied. Hendriks pitched 2 innings last night, and no way you use Osuna unless it's for a save. Plus, considering we were in extras, we can't just use relievers willy-nilly, unless it's September when there's 30+ players on the roster. Workload has to be considered as well.

Now you're speaking Gibby language

We have Cecil, who at least can get lefties and righties. We also could have left Sanchez in longer. Loup is horrific against righties. Sorry but there was no surprise. No w Plus Rodney was all that was left, really, for Seattle. Loup's 6 HR against righties in 22 innings is horrible. Let Sanchez go longer, perhaps. Give Cecil chance. If game goes fifteen innings...but at that point we had a better chance. Gibby too conservative and saving bullets yet wastes Osuna a week ago in a 6-2 lead.

I honestly thought the worse move was playing Goins over Travis. With the offday tomorrow that makes zero sense. I'd understand it if it was Reyes or Bautista but Travis is so young.

Goins came up twice with Walker in the ropes and twice bailed him out.

Anyways you just get the feeling that this team is just a .500 team once again and for the immediate future. I hope AA doesn't make any trades unless it's a baseball trade I.E trading Bautista for a young controllable front line starter.

Which will never happen, as Bautista has 10 and 5 rights and can refuse a trade. So stop it. And Travis needed a day off.. he's coming off an injury, if you remember.

Gibby has rested the wrong players many times before and important games (rubber matches or sweeps). When will Reyes ever get a game off?? Gibby initially hesitated to remove him after Reyes got hit in the face!! Still, Loup should not be facing any righties, ever, unless it is a blowout.

Well yeah Travis is probably a 3-4 war player by season's end and Goins is replacement so that's a pretty big deal. Goins should never be starting if Reyes and Travis are healthy. Know your role and shut your mouth.

I wonder what the rationale was for sitting Travis today. He's been hot and putting up good at-bats. I actually don't remember Reyes getting a day off lately.

Some have speculated that he started Goins because he was 3-5 vs Walker with a HR, which if true, would make it weird that he'd have Goins bunt in first AB.

And if he asked him to bunt in his first AB with Walker on the ropes, why not ask him again in his 2nd AB?

Also, not only do the Jays have an offday tomorrow, but they had one last Monday so really, Travis shouldn't have been tired.

You also realize we have no days off after tomorrow's off day until mid-August, right?

Irrelevant, but all good raysjays, you're consistent.

Only in Toronto.do we bunt to put a runner in scoring position fdor Ryan Goins

f***ing pathetic decision making

That was legitimately terrible.

I never understood that. If you already have a speedster on the bases, why not just have him steal vs. bunting over and giving up an out.

Chance of SB and runner on 2B, nobody out > Chance of sac'ing him over and 1 out

It has everything to do with it. Goins shouldn't be starting... And if our prized rookie could stay healthy he wouldn't be.

The point in question is not that Travis was not in the lineup, and that Goins came up in a key situation

The point was that the Jays sacrificed an out in order to create a situation whereby Goins had to come up with a key hit (the worst hitter on the team by far)

The choice was

runner on 2nd, 1 out, Goins Up

Runner on 1st, 0 out, Pillar up.

The second scenario has a way higher chance of scoring a run.
