Gibboms is a pos....how tbe f*** do u bench Travis when he is the only player who can get a freaking hit....for a pop up machine

They made it very clear that they would ease Travis back. He has played 5 games in a row and it's a afternoon game after a night game. People act as though players can just automatically play every day - I sure as hell don't want them overplaying a guy coming off of injury. I was surprised they played him so much right away, it's the right call to give him a day off

I'm not flipping out over Goins today against a RHP. Maybe we gain a touch on D?

Normally I'd agree with you but Travis is 24 and wasn't rushed back at all missing 35 gms.

He is pencilled in to be our every day 2B against LHP and RHP. I'd say he needs the reps and should be in the line up.

No matter how young you are you still need a day off here and there especially after an injury. As a manager you pick your spots and he picked the right one here with an afternoon game. I'm sure he's available to PH

Prediction. Navarro will either DH or catch tomorrow. Either Smoak will be on the bench or Martin.

There is literally zero chance smoak isn't in the lineup tomorrow

Yeah so Navarro will catch.

I doubt it, but that is in the realm of possibility Im not sure how much Navarro playing is pressure from AA to play him to showcase him for a trade. They needed Navarro to get a few hits to get his numbers up and prove he his healthy in order to trade him.

There is a lefty on the mound tomorrow. So I can understand, and even prefer, if Gibby went to Valencia at 1B/DH or something. Nothing wrong in doing that. You find a way to get the lefty masher in the lineup.

I think they'll put DannyV in left and mushroom at first. Maybe a possibility of Smoak > mushroom after today but regardless I'm 99.9% sure Danny is in barring an injury

Pretty much. I imagine today's lineup and sub in Mushroom and Valencia for Smoak and Carrera. I think Colabello would play 1B and Valencia LF.

Its the best lineup, currently, against LHP. If Gibby leaves out Smoak the next time we face a RHP, then you can get your torches.

I have also been thinking more and it is likely that Navarro may still get more games till the trade deadline, just to try and shop him.

I wonder how long before people realize Navarro is not being showcased, and even if he was, do you know how ridiculous that would be? "Let me play a s***** back-up catcher over far better player so I can get a middle reliever in return for him in a trade in case a team has a catching need in a month".

Teams that showcase replacement level players do not deserve to be in positions of management.

Remember Jo-Jo Reyes?

No Smoak today

Also Gibby has forgotten about last year

Told Blair he doesn't remember ever being in it in the month of July

You know like last year when this team was leading the division by 2.5 games. Doesn't surprise me though after all him and AAgave up on the 2014 bluejays before that

Smoak doesn't hit lefties anyway... he shouldn't be in the line-up (1 HR off a L yesterday doesn't change this).

Gibby tried to protest tonight's game after the out call on Valencia but the home plate umpire denied it.

Smart call by Gibby to do that and I was wondering why he didn't do it, but he did. #Umpshow took over.

He should have every right to protest. The rule book has the exact example from last nights game specifically regarding replay on plays at the plate, and they got it 100% wrong.

Valencia and Colabello didn't exactly have nights to write home about. I dont think it would hurt letting Smoak play first against a LHP. his average is not that bad against RHP and his defense is better than any other options we have at first. He just doesnt have as much power from the right hand side.

Bump....some terrible decisons again tonight lead to another 1 run loss...we need a better pitching staff, but still have to use it better

Honestly at this point does it even matter. There are people talking about Gibbons using Goins as a defensive replacement, or changing the way he deal with his starters, or making better lineup decision. He isn't going to change after a thousand games a managing.

The biggest risk is that we could be tapering of what could have been a lift off season for Smoak, Colabello may be the worst thing to happen to the Jays this season. Given his BABIP, it might be all down hill from here. With a normal BABIP what is he a .260 or .270 hitter, maybe .750 OPS. He will get to those numbers, but as he approaches those numbers it will be painful to watch.

Gibbons has never valued defense. When you put defensive players in a position to fail, on top of a mediocre pitching staff, it's not going to end well. That's on AA too for the roster construction.

I'm just ready to move on from these clowns.

How is the outfield problem on AA? Saunders was going to be the everyday LF and goes down to a freak injury. Pompey should be called up soon, but what exactly was he supposed to do in the meantime?

Sure, Reddick would look great in LF and insert him into this already well-armed offence and holy guacamole, but we pretty much can't afford to burn prospects on him when we need them to address the more glaring issue of SP. Need I remind people that there really weren't a whole lot of reasonable options in the off-season for SP in the first place.
