labadee Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Rain has pre-emptively been brought. All of Yankee Stadium will be in a splash zone when JD comes to bat
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 If we end up playing, this could be deja vu of Jack Morris' 20th win game in 1992 when it rained like hell... I think that was in September also. Anyone remember that hilarious Alfredo Griffin intentional strikeout to get through the game to make it official? lol.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 So you would rather have Thole? I want someone who is fresh, healthy and can catch the knuckleball.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Definitely wouldn't want to be wasting a roster spot for Thole come playoffs... Martin caught Dickey to good results in the second half so I have no issues with him catching Dickey, unless Martin himself does. Martin's been horrid with hitting the ball recently but at least he may still draw and occasional walk and may hit a homer and such.
labadee Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 One area I feel we would have the advantage in a double header situation is the depth of the good bullpen guys. We could split to Cecil-Sanchez-Osuna and Hendriks-Lowe-Hawkins and I'd feel comfortable with both. And if Price is involved in one of those games, we can depend on him to go long anyway to save the pen (barring suspended play by rain delay). Yanks probably don't have this luxury... Would Girardi be daring enough to use Betances-Miller for both games of the double header I wonder..? we'll blow them out of the water so they wont need them
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Yea by the looks of the forecast doubtful there is a game tonight. Got to agree.. but MLB will do everything to get this game in, as the Jays and Yanks have no more common off-days left. If it rains all weekend in NY, MLB may have to move this series to a neutral site or Toronto... as they cannot afford to wait, especially with the postseason in less than 4 weeks.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Not feeling too optimistic about this series. The best game we have a chance at winning is tonight's because of Price, but Severino is still very tough. Our pitching has been discouraging (Buehrle/Hutch/Estrada have not been good), and the Yankees pitching has shown already that they can handle our offense.

Heck, the non-Wilson/Betances/Miller arms have blown the last two games. Shows how little trust Girardi has..

Our pitching has been discouraging (Buehrle/Hutch/Estrada have not been good), and the Yankees pitching has shown already that they can handle our offense. Severino also has to be kept an eye on.. as he is approaching an undetermined innings limit, and Girardi wants him for the ALDS, if they get there. Don't expect more than 5 innings out of him, as he is currently at 134.2 IP, and assuming about 150 IP as a shutdown point until the postseason, he likely has about 3 starts left, hence why they moved Warren to the rotation after Eovaldi's injury. Nova and Pineda have been mediocre to struggling. And no idea what'll we'll see from Tanaka. Last time he pitched 8-9 IP in a start, he struggled afterwards..

fireballW Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 There are way too many factors that come in to play to generalize it that way though, of course most specifically would be the two teams playing, the depth of those teams, and the starters of those games. If all things are equal the home team would probably have the edge because historically teams have better home records than away. Remembering when I played, it seemed even when we played a team much better or worse than us, double headers usually ended in a split. It also seems like an uncharacteristically high # of MLB double headers end in a 1-1 split as well. It could very well just be bias or wrongly remembering but that is what is in my mind and i was just wondering why a bigger number than is statistically probably ends in a split.

Considering even the best teams rarely sport a .600 win % a split would be the most common outcome. Sorry I thought we were looking for who would have the edge in a double header.

Let me ask you this - right now do you have more confidence in Drew Hutchison or RA Dickey? The answer should be obvious, but you're telling me we should be sticking with Drew because he had a real dominant 2nd half in 2014? Thats bull.
