I don't pretend to know everything, but I have a buddy who played a high level of ball. He told me that while off days are good, having a bunch come all at once isn't ideal. It has a lot to do with routine, timing, feeling. BOH. I'm just restating what was told to me.

I always assume it would suck more to suffer from jet lag and having to play at a time when you normally are sleeping.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 You clearly didn't read my post lol I sure did. You said you don't like him leading off. My point is he's only guaranteed to be the first batter up in an inning once all game. I don't see that as a major concern, seeing as he'll end up leading off an inning hitting 3rd, 4th or 5th somewhat regularly during the course of a season. You then you talked about the "having your best hitter leading off" theory, claiming that's dumb because he isn't the teams best hitter. I explained you have that theory wrong.

My argument had nothing to do with him only being the first batter up in an inning once all game. I'm not sure where you're getting this. My argument also included that even though I don't like him leading off, there is no better option at the moment.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Martin playing injured is hurting this team. wRC+ of 63 since June 23. That's Goins territory.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 wRC+ of -9 since end of August........ PUT f***ING NAVARRO IN and LET MARTIN HEAL FFS
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I told y'all but nooooooooooo people look at his .250 avg and 15 homers and think 'eleeetz' Navarro and Goins are way ahead of Martin at this time. DL Martin, or if you really are desperate to keep him active, swap starts with him and Navarro. Navarro will catch everyone except Dickey.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Yea playing through a hamstring injury will never let it heal. Though to let that heal up could take him out for the season? I guess no one knows of the extent of it but his running last night sure told the story.

It certainly appears the injuries are affecting his play; however, I don't think anyone should have expected he was more going to post a wRC+ much higher than 110

You said you don't want him leading off.....my point is the "lead off" position is poorly named as the teams' first batter is only guaranteed to "lead off" one inning a game, which is no big deal. People should view the 1st hitter in the lineup as one of your better hitters who you want getting more at bats than you're s***** hitters (ie, Revere). You shouldn't be concerned (to the point you say you don't want him there) with Tulo hitting 1st in the Jays lineup. That's the point. I'm done.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 The rest of this road trip has me worried. Team looks tired and I can't remember the last time we played well in Anaheim. Could be out of the playoffs by the end of the trip if we falter. Hope I'm wrong.

Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Well, it is a Toronto thing so it wouldn't surprise.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 It's going to be pretty difficult to not at least make the WC game, and if they do there's a decent chance they face someone like Chris Tillman or Ubaldo. The playoffs will be easy to make.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 It was painful to watch Martin run to first in the 9th. I'd be inclined to give him a couple of days off. G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 John Gibbons is the f***ing worst. Gibby's post game interview last night was pretty painful I'm with Zaun - Navarro should have been catching Buerhle yesterday

Except that the Angels cannot score.. they cannot continue to expect their pitching to dominate their opposition. The Angels are just trying to hold off surging Baltimore and Texas, who are threatening to kill L.A.'s postseason hopes. And the Texas series.. Rangers are not a shoo-in. Their pitching is still bad, and Hamels/Gallardo are not expected to pitch in the Jays series.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Gibby is not the man for this job.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Baseball requires such a high level of talent, not being at 100% is a huge crutch and can have serious repercussions to individual performance that carry over to the team. You see it all the time. You need to put the healthy player in.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Martin is SLGing .111 in August. That is not a typo.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Well, it is a Toronto thing so it wouldn't surprise. wouldn't surprise me either. not because it's Toronto... just because it's baseball. It's so random. It's frustrating to me. I thought the AA era would lead to a young core that would be good for 5 years... long enough for luck to even out. Instead he just kept trading prospects for high level talent until a critical mass was reached... and I agree it is a really great team right now. If you could have these players 5 years it would be great... but Price is gone after the years, Bautista, EE and even Martin look old... It's like the core will only be together for 50 games.... and luck can hit either way.

Most never do.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Great offense, not great team. Top-notch bullpen, above-average rotation, and plus defense everywhere. The team is very, very good.
TRM Verified Member Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Great offense, not great team. This is fundamentally wrong.
