Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Any mention of the roster move for Pennington? I'm assuming Kawasaki going down and Pennington and Goins platooning at 2nd. We really should be sending Schultz down and calling up Pompey or someone else to be the 4th OF or take over in CF and platooning Revere and Pillar in LF.

I agree with everything save for taking Pillar out of CF. That should never happen.
Sparky12 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Stroman back in Florida for rehab, so excited at the possibility of getting him back this year
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Anyone else surprised to find themselves thinking that Price and Dickey look like a pretty killer 1-2 punch for the playoffs?? Agreed! Dickey looks like the guy the Jays thought they were getting when they traded for him. IF the Jays win the World Series it will make trading Syndergaard and Norris worth it no matter what those 2 turn out to be.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 How do so many teams have a bunch of games in hand on us. Bal/La have 3 less after today. Yanks also have three in hand.

Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 81 games a year Toronto knows they won't have rainouts or riots. It's just worrisome b/c they can make up ground fast :/
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 81 games a year Toronto knows they won't have rainouts or riots. Plus 9 or 10 in Tampa means that over half of the season's games are guaranteed to be played on their scheduled days. The games played discrepancy between the Jays and other clubs is like this every year.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 It's just worrisome b/c they can make up ground fast :/ The question is, what isn't worrisome to you? Earlier you wanted Price to just walk McCann to avoid getting crushed by him, for example. Maybe some posters are not ready for a playoff race.
LRC1962 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Point one some would take issue of me starting a topic as a noobie, but as I was looking at the stats what I found out blew me away. Braking it into 2 parts to make things more manageable. Images are broken at the All-Star break because that is where it seems the biggest change came. Pre-All-Star Focus on ERA: Focus on Save % Focus on WHIP Edited August 9, 2015 by LRC1962
LRC1962 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Post-All-Star Focus on ERA: Focus on Save % Focus on WHIP As you can see from the two posts something big happened to the pitching staff at the All-Star break. Even looking just at the July numbers as a whole they were bad. This being said, breaking down those charts, although the acquisition of Price can not be said how invaluable and impactful he will be to the whole pitching staff. The two pieces I see that could be even more important maybe Lowe and Hawkins as they really add depth to an improving bull pen. Edit:Sorry about small images clickable and a NB will try and make them bigger. Anyone know how to make it fit full width? Edited August 9, 2015 by LRC1962

Pre-All-Star Focus on ERA: Focus on Save % Focus on WHIP We've only played 21 games since the All-Star break, which is a pretty small sample size. This leave rate stats like ERA, save% and WHIP wide open to the "sh*t happens" factor that get smoothed out over time. Although Price would have had a slight impact so far in his two games.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 So much fail here, I don't even know where to begin.

OK then Pre all-star starts are also irrelevent because the pitchs that caused those stats are no longer on the pitching staff.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 ERA, Save %, Whip. Good lord we're back in 1999 again what do the nerd stats say beaker? I'm sure it's all looking good post all star break.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Stat wise Estrada is the only pitcher that stands out to me...I figured he would be below average to average arm.
LRC1962 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Stroman back in Florida for rehab, so excited at the possibility of getting him back this year I do not want him back if it means he gets reinjured like to his arm. Too many young guyys rush things thinking they are unbreakable until they can not be fixed, then it is too late. The ashes of might have been is full of those types of pitchers.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I do not want him back if it means he gets reinjured like to his arm. "Re"inured? His arm was never injured, it was his knee/leg. Not sure how his leg could lead to a arm injury.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 If pitching keeps this up.. the world series will be easy to make.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 what do the nerd stats say beaker? I'm sure it's all looking good post all star break. Not really. A bit of luck with flyballs has us 22nd in xFIP, 11th in FIP and 21st in SIERA. Nice to win but there's been some luck on the pitching side. But hey, if you want to buy into ERA after like 20 games, be my guest.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 "Re"inured? His arm was never injured, it was his knee/leg. Not sure how his leg could lead to a arm injury. This is the downside of contention.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Why are you guys being dicks to a guy that (probably) doesn't know better? Pre-All-Star Focus on ERA: Focus on Save % Focus on WHIP Using stats like ERA, Save % and WHIP isn't going to create a lot of discussion around here because most of us prefer to use advanced stats that tell a bigger picture. If you've actually got an openness to learning more about the game, feel free to check out the Sabermetrics thread at the top of the forum, and definitely check out http://www.fangraphs.com. FIP, WAR and wRC+ are some good stats to read up on as a beginner to sabermetrics. Just a heads up though, if you aren't willing to learn more about the game and prefer sticking to ancient statistics like ERA, you probably won't have an enjoyable experience here. If that's the case, check out BlueBirdBanter or the Blue Jays sub-reddit for more casual discussions. And for larger pictures, don't use the built-in image uploading system.
