GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Well I'd buy your outlook if you came across a lot less kooky. You're also GROSSLY underestimating how good 0.9 WAR in 9 games is. 15 WAR in 150 games, lool
LTR Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Tulo is a lot better than Reyes. Stats, eye test, Fangraphs, whatever you want to use, it will come to the same conclusion. I still have f***ing nightmares about balls being hit in the vicinity of SS
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 OK, this is the last post because I am at work. I did not say that it was because he wanted to win so badly, I just don't believe in the WAR statistic. It can't accurately measure a SS range and puts more weight on offense than defense when every one knows that a run saved equals a run scored. Although I don't believe in the WAR stat, I still refer to stats that can be determined without making any assumptions (most of the basic and advanced stats). Why should I accept the WAR calculation when I prefer to look at all the individual statistical components on my own; it gives more information, which I have no problem understanding, and I can do calculations in my head. Maybe you prefer fantasy baseball, I prefer the real thing played by humans. Of course individual stats matter but 'not believing in war' is a pretty stupid statement. It far exceeds any calculation you can possibly come up with in your head when analyzing a player's overall value to the team.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Well, it's called Defensive Independent Pitching Statistics for a reason, lol. Confidence in your defense can improve a pitching staff's performance (DIPS). Confidence in general can improve performance. Nothing wrong in saying that.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Sure it does. His defense is accounted for and pitchers were not punished for Reyes' shortcomings in that department to begin with. Advanced stats measure results but they don't measure how those results came to be. Confidence, moral, etc exist and impact performance.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Brian Kenny is filling in for Russo on High Heat. This guy is so good. Talking about the merit of having great managers like Maddon, Cash and Bannister pulling pitchers before they do damage. s***ing on bad managers for leaving guys in because "they've earned it" despite seeing the game falling apart in front of them. MLB Network stream for anyone that's bored and wants to follow along: http://www.stream2watch.co/live-tv/us/mlb-network-live-stream

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Just got an e-mail promo for MLB.TV at $24.99. I usually don't get it since I tend to get good quality streams, I like watching the games on my PC and I don't like the delays, but I don't think I can keep away at that price with the Jays eyeing the playoffs.

Aren't Jays games blacked out in Canada?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Aren't Jays games blacked out in Canada? Nope, Canadians are the only market that don't have to deal with the blackout, at least if what I've heard everywhere is accurate.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Well that's awesome, they used to blackout every game which stopped me from purchasing
