I think its time to, unfortunately, accept that Smoak will not be seen as a every day player. That 1B/DH position is going to be cycled between him and Cola with a sprinkle of Martin or Navarro depending on the catcher for the game.

There's a righty on the mound... f*** u Gibbons.

Coming back as a starter?

Likely a reliever for the rest of the year.... Off 6months won't be anywhere close to stretched out.

I say this with the fact that Minor league games end on sept 7th and that gives him not much time to rehab as a starter and get stretched out

Won't take him long though, 3 weeks and you can be up to 80 pitches. Keep him in the minors and stretch him out as best you can and get him up here early/mid Sept

Stroman defies odds. How cool would it be for him to start game 7 of the world series at home

Stro is awesome but in that situation I would take Price

I think it'd be cooler if he started game 4 of the World Series. If you get where I'm going with this...

I feel like rationally I should be with you on this, but game seven would fall on my birthday, so I'd give pretty much anything for that.

Scenario: every away game is PPD, thus pushing game 4 to your birthday. Thoughts?

I guess I can't argue with this. I'm in.

The buzz is a result of winning? AA could've brought Tulo and Price in but if the Jays were on a five game losing streak the NYY series would not be sold out.

On July 31st last year the Jays were on a 6 game winning streak, 10 games over .500 and 1.5 games back. Buzz sells tickets...not winning. It's all about perception.

I was talking to a friend yesterday about the Jays, and he asked when the last time the team was in a playoff spot this late in the season. I told him that last year they were 60-50 at one point and in a playoff spot on August 6 (http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/standings.cgi?year=2014&month=8&day=6&submit=Submit+Date). He expected that the answer would be 1993 or something and was really surprised. Baseball Prospectus had the Jays at a 50%+ postseason probability in early August last year.

The trade deadline buzz is what has made this seem like such a special opportunity for the team, not the winning.

I'm more interested this year post deadline just because it seems like the roster is way better. Even the media has mentioned the best run differential thing a lot.

lol @ friendly banter between Donaldson and Anderson

I want Donaldson to have my children.

Wow I didn't even know that... But the difference this year is that we are in a wildcard spot right now. Looks like the AL is alot weaker as a whole. And the Jays have a much stronger roster than last year.

That only makes sense. I think even most casual fans realize:

JD > Lawrie

Martin> than JPA and Navarro

Tulo> Reyes

David Price > ANYONE ELSE WE HAVE HAD FOR A HELL OF A LONG TIME.

etc

So even if we lost a couple more than we have since deadline people would still be very interested.

I don't think you know what the word "great" means, North

opening yourself up to DDL jokes here but I'll thank it for f***ing with North

They were in a wild card spot on August 6th last year too! And they had a better record, had fewer games remaining and were closer to a less-imposing division leader (Baltimore).

The Jays are probably a better team now, yes, but not that much stronger. Don't forget that last year's team featured great contributions from Stroman, Melky, Lind, Happ and others.

Tulo, Donaldson, Martin, Price, Revere are much much better than the collection of players we had last year. The Bullpen is a lot better too.

James Shields has been placed on revocable waivers officially, as of this AM.

What are the chances the Yanks grab him if the Jays let him go through?

If the Jays grabbed him, would it be a straight grab or would the Padres hold out for a trade? If so, could we trade another prospect, maybe an OF, and have the Padres eat some of his salary?

That's fair and a good point. I still believe winning games brings people to the yard, no matter what. Had the Jays and their deadline acquisitions dropped their first 5 games the buzz would be gone. They're somewhat dependent on each other.

On the FAN 590 right now...

They have Gibby on... Barker's going on about some good decisions that Gibby has made. How does Gibby respond? "I love when you stroke me, baby.". All you hear from Blair is " Woah."

I just threw up in my mouth.

James Shields makes too much sense for this team. Him and his prorated 10M contract should easily be taken on by Rogers as Dinger talked about earlier.

Having a formidable 1-2 punch in Price and Shields would be huge down the stretch. It would give the Jays a very real chance at going deep into the post season without having to rely on out slugging teams in order to win. He replaces Buehrle on a short term contract and adds the innings this staff will so desperately need in 2016.

Hahaha Gibby should join the board, seems like he'd fit right in here.
