^ 42 mill off the books! Plus no more Dickey, yes!

Have to account for raises though...I believe Martin will be up to 15M, which is 8M higher than this year, plus you have to consider re-signing Buerhle, which is going to cost what, $13M? Dickey I'd let walk, but won't be surprised if they pick up the option, which brings the savings down to about 10M.

Dickey is so f***ing bad 4.85 / 5.11 / 4.79

PS -

1. Pompey and Pillar have enhanced external value due to each other's existence.

2. Saunders cost in 2016 can also likely be recouped (traded for something cheap or 2017 IFA $ if that is allowed. Worst case scenario, non tender if knee is dead).

I'd rather take my chances with a lack of depth in the OF for the next year and a half than miss out on addressing a clear pitching need in a year where we have a shot.

3. Collabello has value and Id consider using him in trade since smoak is a thing. (Three way deal where third party wants a cheap bat now - maybe it softens blow to farm). Maybe we just trade him straight up for a lot of cash (see 2020 free agency).

4. If you still cant get beyond the supposed fixed annual budget - Dont count out a deferral of salary by Joey or EE.

If it gets past the union, playoffs mean more FA $ or atleast extension leverage for those two. Its not bad business by them with free agency in 2017.

there are more than enough options to make the Hamels money work.

Heres the aggregate of the above:

Hamels and Papelbon and $10M-20M (or IFA $ for 2017 if allowed) for:

Pompey

One of Castro, Norris, Sanchez or Hoffman

Boyd

Another mid tier prospect depending on who of 4 above included

Third team that pays phillies cash they flip to us and also gives us 2017 IFA $

Saunders

Collabello

$ contribution is directly correlated with 4th prospect that could also come from third party.

Bautista and EE defer some money

So a third team (probably AL) Effectively signs collabello mid year and gets saunders for 2015 and the right to keep him beyond that or nontender.

The phillies get a boatload of prospects dependant on how much $ we need and how much collabello goes for.

And we get hamels and pappelbon and a lot of money (via shedding and cash and deferral)

Some of this may not be allowed. Just makes sense to me since we need $, another team prob needs bats and has $ but not prospects and the phillies prob dont want to spend as they begin rebuild.

Maybe im overstating collabellos $ value but i think he is the key to making the making $ work.

If anything - collabello at 10M + another 10m of real salary for 4 and a half years aint bad. Hes a DH so it only works for AL team rolling the dice.

Yea seriously, I have zero faith in him. I don't care what anyone else says the unpredictability of his pitch is just through the roof.

He can throw 5 innings of no hit ball and then blow up at anytime. The worst part, is when the knuckleball is moving so much the umps have trouble figuring where it crossed the plate which clearly frustrates both him & Martin every game it seems and guys get on base whether they should or not. It's just a stupid f***ing pitch and he's so lucky he made a successful baseball career at all.

Martin has been so so bad catching him too, it's almost unbearable to watch. People need to realize that s*** carries over into other aspects of Martin's game too.

Most likely, might even retire. If he doesn't retire I have a feeling he'll want to be closer to home though.

Also forgot that Izturis is off the books to right??

Buehrle and Dickey both leaving would make me smile. I worry that the Jays will go out of their way to try and bring at least one, if not both, back.

The devil you know...

If there's any speculation to them being brought back I'll personally hire a ninja to take them both out.

why would anyone want buehrle to leave? if there's one thing I like in my pitchers it's consistency and he's about as reliable as they come

By RA9 WAR, Buehrle had an excellent season last year (3.9 WAR in 202 IP) and he's following it up with another very good year (2.1 WAR in 106 IP so far).

Agreed! Buehrle can stay if he wants, Dickey FYSMC get the f*** out! :)

There is nothing similar about Walker and Strasburg. SS is an established ace with little control left.

i indicated as much in my post.... the point being, trading for elite starters with control is not out of the question, especially when willing to give up top 100 prospects and/or an EE in return

So wilner says it will take one of stroman/Hoffman to land Cueto...please tell me I'm crazy for reading what wilner says! Please!!!

How bout a qualifying offer for Buerhle.

As for Hamels.....

Despite recent public comments indicating that he’d consider a trade to any club, Cole Hamels of the Phillies has privately indicated to the team that he is not interested in going to the Blue Jays, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Hamels also appears unlikely to waive his no-trade clause for a move to the Astros, Heyman notes. But he would be amenable to being sent to the Red Sox “and possibly a few others,” per the report.

FYSMC Hamels!

Hoffman: the guy that can't strike anyone out in high-A ball? Please tell me they will take Hoffman for Cueto!

Guy has been spewing the same garbage for ten years. Anyways 1 starter isn't going to save this pitching staff. As it stands right now Jays only have 1 mlb caliber starter

And Romero. Finally.

I would be ok with qualifying MB. If he wants to continue to pitch he will get a multi year offer.

I was thinking the exact same thing. He's been sooo solid for us since the trade. Thank God. Otherwise that trade is an absolute train wreck otherwise.

The trade was and still is a trainwreck unfortunately. Aside from Buehrle JJ was a bust as was Bonifacio, Reyes is now a payroll millstone around our necks and John Buck was just John Buck. In return the Marlins got Nicolino, Marisnick, DeSclafani, Alvarez, Hechavarria, Mathis and Escobar, every one of them with either the potential to be or has already become an established major leaguer.

My only consolation is that the Marlins have completely mishandled Nicolino, DeSclafani is now pitching fairly well for the Reds and Marisnick is a useful piece for the Astros.

It all depends on what other teams are offering, but realistically the offer just needs to top a compensation pick.

jon gray and jorge de la rosa for:

Devon travis, dalton pompey, castro

Pretty much 2 for 1 then de la rosa for castro since theyd have no pitching left

Stroman

Gray

Sanchez

Norris

Hoffman/Harris

Hutch to BP

Hutch does not go to the pen in any trade for SP the Blue Jays make. There are at least three starters who are worse than him on this team.

They already have LeMahieu for 2B so they don't need Travis and Gray might not be all that good. Don't think either team does that
