burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 It's hard to blame fans for thinking like this, given what the media tells them. The broadcasters have been ripping on Reyes for a while; Howarth is campaigning for Goins to start every day and the rest of them say stuff like this: It's annoying how this is the lens through which many fans learn the game. Also hard to blame fans when they watch and Reyes make a ton of stupid mistakes at the worst of times. He's better than Goins obviously but he has to be one of the most frustrating players to watch with the lack of fundamentals and mental errors.

nextyear Verified Member Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Does anyone know the stats for the total runs scored by the Blue Jays versus total runs allowed when Reyes starts a game this season? (including earned and unearned runs) It would be interesting to compare it with the same stats for when he doesn't start.

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 The most concerning performance on the team this season is Edwin's. Over his three monster seasons he was in the 12-13% BB rate and 10-15% K-rate area. His walk rate is less than 11% and his K-rate has shot up to 21%. He's also hitting a lot more ground balls and making more soft contact. He has a 102 wRC+ and projections have cooled on him by almost 20% from preseason. At 217 PA this year, it's concerning.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 You heard it here first, Jose Reyes is a -7 WAR player guys.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I've been watching the Blue Jays for 25 years now. I've never witnessed such a bipolar player before. Reyes will actually win you 2-3 games a years with his bat. But he'll lose you 10 with his glove and brain (lack thereof). Howarth is right though: This team would probably be better off with Goins at SS. Mods, please ban. No need to let this go 500 posts.

Last year in almost 200 PAs, Ryan Goins somehow managed a TWENTY SIX wRC+ so he has improved this season. Maybe if we're lucky he'll be replacement level.
Statman Verified Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Holy f***! Every game this guy finds ways to lose with his s***** defense, poor plate discipline and base running. How is it even possible to fail so much in a single game? This guy is magnetically drawn to losing. Today's game summary: - Flails away at bad 0-2 pitch (with the bases loaded!) and hits a lucky bloop single - Throwing error costs Jays runs - Almost throws another one in the dirt on next play - Gets caught trying to stretch a single into a double http://i.imgur.com/M4OSiq3.jpg This f*** has got to go. Reyes is s*** now but his overall skill set at SS is still better than anyone else the Jays have in this organization.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Reyes has 10 hits in 29 at bats since coming back. That's what you want. He's being overly aggressive trying too hard to make things happen. Gibby has to pull him into the office and tell him to get his head out of his ass. Bautista has to kick him in the balls and tell him he's costing the jays games. He's going to hit and steal bases. He just needs to work harder mentally and physically preparing for games. He's still a talent.
nextyear Verified Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Reyes is s*** now but his overall skill set at SS is still better than anyone else the Jays have in this organization. This just isn't reality. Jose Reyes turns almost every play into a suspense as to rather he will mess it up one way or another. Although there are many Goins haters on this forum, Goins is a very talented SS, much better on the field than Reyes.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 My biggest concern with Reyes is his walk rate. He was in the 10s regularly with the Mets, 8 when he first came to Toronto and something like 3.5 the last few years. It's brutal.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 the excitement in that thread brings back memories. i was having goosebumps that day Yeah, tons of excitement. One reason was because some posters were fooled into thinking Rogers was opening up the wallet and would make more money available if needed. Anyway, too late now.

I think it's gone from 8% in 2013 to 6% last year to 2% in 90 PA's this year. It's really a waste of time though, he's not going anywhere.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 How much longer do we have him? 2 more years? Reyes at second, replaced by a real shortstop would be a lot more palatable... Travis makes that challenging now though

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 10 mill this year, 6-10 mill going forward and kiss him goodbye! A outfielder or pitcher will do! Heck might even take nothing even! Lol
