Reyes' fundamentals have always been a mess. Mets fans always talked about what a gifted athlete he was, but had no baseball IQ whatsoever. Now he's getting older and he's not as great an athlete... So his idiocy stands out even more.

Like being the third out at third with one of the hottest hitters in baseball coming to the plate.

I was a NL fan for so many years as an Expo fan, that it is tough to watch the Blue Jays play. It seems that offense is all that is important to many fans of the Blue Jays.

I would rather watch the Blue Jays with Ryan Goins at SS than watch the Blue Jays with a big offensive, average fielding SS get lots of runs and lose 10 - 9. On the other hand, watching Pillar play a decent CF and look terrible at the plate is starting to sicken me.

In my opinion, watching a good fielding team that helps a pitcher achieve a low ERA is just as rewarding as watching the Blue Jays lead in runs per games but play under 0.500 winning percentage.

Yankees say no and laugh while they say it

Reyes contract is untradable

Yes cause the Yankees are afraid to take on Payroll ! Lol

There is only 14 mill difference and 2 mill on the buyout difference too!

So if we have to pay that 14 mill diff over 3 years and 2 mill if they buy him out I am ok with it!

Even with the buyout 5.667 mill per year to rid myself of Reyes, priceless win win!

Reyes had a horrible year defensively last year. He isnt a stud SS by any stretch but I expect him to play his position better than he did last year and he has. Ideally you'd like him at 2b but this team has no viable SS options and thus this topic is pretty much mute.

"moot"

And I don't think its impossible to get a serviceable option coming back or in another deal. A couple of names have been mentioned. Few, if any, expected JD and/or Martin to be on the Jays 2015 roster. Nobody expected VW to move.

you think ideally @ 2b. Hardly a universal view that's his optimum pos.

Would Donaldson be better at short?

I don't think you want to mess with one of the best players. He's probably better than Reyes with Smoak at 1B catching his throws but still below average. He's one of the best 3B so I think you just keep him there and try to find a SS.

no imo, guy already had to learn a new pos and why mess with a good thing. 3rd and SS are so different.

He has been our most stable player on O and D.

It would be interesting to see Gibby just straight up swap Goins & Reyes for the next 7 games or so until Travis is ready to return. The main issue with Reyes lately hasn't been his glove as much as it has been getting the snap throw to end up anywhere near 1st while still in the air. He has been throwing flat-footed & just generally seems to have his upper body out-running his base... leading to off-balance, off-target throws. He still has the range to play 2B, however he does not need to make the long throw across the diamond which will hopefully buy him the time he needs to get set.

Ryan Goins is twice the SS Reyes has EVER been defensively... and that is all he needs to be right now.

The other option of course would be to try to trade him retained or for another horrible contract... which doesn't really fix this problem long term.

SS....for the Colorado Rockies

Yes that has worked out well for the Blue Jays. Most thought it might be a matter of moving him 90 feet, who would have thought that it would be 2,500 km.

I hope things will work out well for Reyes in Colorado.

To be fair to Tulowitzky, the Jays are undefeated when he starts.

Tulowitzki is great. I like defense so watching Tulowitzki playing SS is much more satisfying than watching Jose Reyes.

To be fair morale was boosted 500%+ when Reyes left the team (secretly though as nobody wanted to be the outlier) and thus began the winning streak.

I still can't believe AA got us Tulo. He can pull rabbits out of his ass. He got us the best shortstop in the MLB, THE Colorado franchise player. Now, how do you top that? unf***ingbelievable.

This following information, that should remain classified information (which is why I posted it in this obscure thread), is the outlier of all outliers almost like someone winning the 6/49 lottery. Almost at the same level as someone being hit by lightning twice. Almost like the Buffalo Bills win-loss record when Doug Flutie started at QB ("he just wins" Doug Flutie).

When Ryan Goins has started at 2B in 2015, the Blue Jays record (up to and including the game on Thursday August 13th) is 30 wins and 11 losses. I have posted the games below that Ryan Goins started at 2B: (the starting 2B and win-loss information comes from the MLB website here - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_04_21_nyamlb_detmlb_1#game=2015_04_21_nyamlb_detmlb_1,game_state=Wrapup).

Isn't this the flukiest and least valuable piece of information around? I am not a superstitious person so I know this information is meaningless (really, please no one get hostile and start calling me names :D). The only connection between this information and the thread topic is that Reyes was at SS for all but one of the games not played by Tulowitzki (other than Tulowitzki, Diaz played one of these games).

So what you are saying it doesn't matter whether it's Goins or Tulo, if Reyes is injured, riding pine, or traded the Jays are a better team?

I still can't believe AA doubled down on the Wells trade.

No, I am not saying anything other than it is an odd fact.
