Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Yo what is the word on this dude? When is he coming back? I haven't seen this guy bhave an at bat in the regular season in like 2 f***ing years. I know he was with the team out of camp last year but his time with the club was short lived and I barely remember him. He only played in that s***** 2013 season and unless I am mistaken he was injured for a portion of that year as well. My point is wtf is up with this guy? Is he coming back soon? Does his contract expire this year? Maicer Izturis general

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I would honestly be happy if we were never to hear from him again. I think he isn't good enough to be on the 25 man roster anyways.

There was talk he may go out on a rehab assignment this weekend or early next week. He has resumed some baseball activities.
Nafro Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Jose Reyes (rib) took a successful round of on-field batting practice on Wednesday afternoon. Though the injured shortstop did acknowledge to reporters that he didn't fully extend his arms for fear of aggravating his cracked rib. Reyes said he plans to push it a little harder on Thursday. He has been on the disabled list since April 27 and probably won't be ready to rejoin Toronto's active roster until late May. Source: John Lott on Twitter May 13 - 4:53 PM

43211234 Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 He got transferred to the 60 day DL. I doubt they clear a 40-man spot for him when he's healthy. You'll never seen him in a Blue Jays uniform again.

If the Jays outright released Romero working and his $8M contract (or whatever it is) why wouldn't they release Izturis who is making a fraction of that? Is it because he's hurt?

Off the top of my head the only other ex-Expo still in the majors that I can think of is Bartolo Colon. I seem to recall Brendan Harris signing a minor league contract earlier this year.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 $3mm replacement level scrub at this point...been that way since 2011. Don't care anymore. There are cheaper options for filler.

Biggest issue with Izturis is that he doesn't play ss anymore greatly reducing any value he might have as a backup and he's very unlikely (nor deserving really) to get another shot at a starting gig.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 he has no quality that should earn him a roster spot at this time No, not really. He's a switch hitter which could be seen as a positive but as a bench player you could very easily prefer someone with a strong split rather than a jack of all trades, master of none.
