RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 AA should have known better.r. He has failed. Its as simple as when JP failed. Both failed for different reasons, but its been 6 years. Damn Orioles blocked us from Danny D, but now I am starting to think that some compensation would have been okay to make that work out. I wish we had traded Sanchez to the Orioles. At least then we would have had direction with the franchise I really hope that somehow we find a way to bring him to Toronto next year.
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 AA should have known better. If you are in 'win now' mentality you fork up the cash and go for broke even if it means overpaying for a front of the rotation starting pitcher like Shields or Shertzer. Our rotation and bullpen was shakey enough without the additions of 4 rookie pitchers that are 22 and younger. Yes they are very talented but you'd be stupid to not expect a bunch of bumps along the road (Osuna has somehow been virtually flawless). Even Hutch is only a year removed from his first full MLB season. These young arms need time to develop. Problem is time isn't exactly on the side of aging vets like Dickey, Bautista, EE, Reyes etc. Kinda seemed like AA had just one foot in the door with his win now mentality. Its a shame because its really hard to imagine the Jays competing with this current rotation, and our aging players certainly aren't gaining more value by us hanging onto them any longer. I feel like the 'window' has a bit of an extension with Donaldson and Martin in the mix even if one of Bautista/EE are out of the picture or less effective after next season. JD is a monster and will carry the middle of this order. Maybe it's just me but I'm a lot less worried than before. In a few years this team will still be good, in fact if the pitching comes around by then we will be likely better off than we are today. Offense wins fans but pitching wins seasons.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 ^ I actually still think that if the pitching straightens itself out, this team has a run in it this year.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I keep refreshing this forum expecting for news that Sanchez has been optioned. It has to happen, right?

Did Sanchez even have a single SwStr tonight? For the love of god can people stop saying he has "great stuff" now? He throws hard, his stuff sucks. Hence the low K%, hence the low SwStr%.

Just noticed Mark Buehrle has the lowest SwStr% in all of baseball (qualified)... I know it's not his thing to miss bats but it's well below his career numbers. I imagine a 3mph loss in FB velocity will do that.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I guess he got hammered last start right. But it is very convenient for you and others to ignore when Sanchez actually shows that he can help this team. 7+ innings 0 runs....no other Blue Jays has done that this year. Tonight has been bad for an inning or so We should ask somebody if we can just remove the one bad inning or something? I mean other than that, he showed up and helped this team. That's what winners do.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 "The game plan after giving up five runs was just to keep them right there," Sanchez said. "For the remainder of the time I was out there, I thought I did a good job."

"For the remainder of the time I was out there, I thought I did a good job." Nobody tells him any different. Good job Aaron, go get them next time. In all seriousness, it's not the kid's fault they keep sending him out there day after day with almost zero chance to succeed. This is 100% on the FO.
