Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 0.00 ERA, 17/4 K/BB ratio... In New Hampshire (AA). He's only going to LA because the Dodgers have been hit hard by injuries which have drained their minors depth. Considering he hasn't pitched well above AA, I'm not holding my breath on him being a MLB arm. 17/4 k/bb is all I need to see
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I know Matt West might have the stuff.. but there's a reason he's heading for his 3rd organization in a year. He didn't exactly have good numbers in AAA last year, and only saw the majors last season because of Texas's pitching injuries. He has yet to even dominate in AAA batters.. you fans are not scouts, and it's likely that there's something Texas and Toronto didn't like. Don't expect him to reach the Dodgers either.. he's basically roster filler, as LA is very short of depth right now due to injuries to Ryu and McCarthy. Wilkins was AAA fodder, West has yet to even dominate in AAA (he was toiling in New Hampshire before this trade, a level he has spent a lot of time at in recent years, only reaching the Rangers due to a huge amount of injuries last season.) He was in AA, not AAA. And his walk rate was rising again in New Hampshire this season. There's a good chance he would have been lit up in Buffalo. West will be DFAd when the Dodgers need to call up another arm. They have had a ton of injuries to the rotation and bullpen. Plus, they have a number of players on the 60-day DL who will return later in the season. 0.00 ERA, 17/4 K/BB ratio... In New Hampshire (AA). Considering he hasn't pitched well above AA, I'm not holding my breath on him being a MLB arm. A 4.15 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in AAA Round Rock last year isn't exactly inspiring. And he wasn't that impressive in his brief callup to the Rangers. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/whid.gif
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 17/4 k/bb is all I need to see 3-1 K/BB walk ratio for his career even in his "bad" MLB stint. There might be something there and even if you're skeptical, there's still more of an argument for keeping him on the 40 man than DFAing him for the likes of Albers and Copeland.

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 These are the moves that piss people off who are in the fan base that are more than the causal fan. West might have done a better job than a guy like Francis (he could have done worse), might have given the Jays a RP that gives them some decent innings for once and just gets sold while other, less talented and likely never will see time in the bigs this year, guys remain on the roster. A pair of 20 year olds make the team (even though they were great in ST but we knew they would struggled/get hit hard at some point, everyone does) and then AA just let's guys go for pretty much nothing. Like someone mentioned if it's not money for the international pool it makes no sense. AA will make the waiver claims to build "depth," writing waiver fees, try to slip some guys through who will refuse the assignment or get claimed themselves, rinse and repeat. It could be a sell high kind of thing but if this is selling high I wonder what selling low is? Then he'll panic or blow out someone's arm because the BP depth isn't there.

The only thing I can think is that both of those guys can go multiple innings. Granted they will most likely get rocked, but they can do it. No Matt West Wig Nights in Toronto
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/whid.gif I've long since placed raysjays on ignore. I suggest you all do the same.

It was shortsighted but they are trying to do everything they can to win and West was low on their depth chart, whether people agree or disagree with that is another question. I wonder how much the cash is but hopefully it adds a small amount of payroll flexibility and doesn't go right into Rogers' pockets.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 you wouldn't I might. You just rendered a whole page of content unreadable.

I highly doubt AA would do that, more likely trying to replace cash Rogers should be giving him.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Thank f*** we added Castro to the 40 man right out of spring training, super good move!

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I hope its international bonus money or this is really dumb Funny that's what I was thinking too! But then that would signal Vald Jr. and nothing more rather then loading up and going big too!

Would be pretty genius move to move West to the Dodgers for some of their international pool money and make them pay more tax money then they intended
Nafro Verified Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I guess my problem is, as of right now it appears that Matt West was DFA'd to add Andrew Albers to the roster, eat 2 and 2/3 garbage innings and than be sent back down.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I have Raysjays on ignore How can you possibly have one of the most entertaining posters in history on ignore. The guy has played the same schtick for 5 years without breaking character once (well the slip up responding to himself...so once). That's serial killer kind of commitment!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Did someone say doesn't have stuff? http://rangersblog.dallasnewsblogs.com/files/2014/07/NS_17RANGD_36587813-620x387.jpg This guy oozes stuff.
North of 60 Verified Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 He isn't Canadian, so the Jays don't need him. Sign Rheal Cormier, Eric Gagne, and Jason Dickson! Trade the current bullpen for cash. After nobody wants them, just release em. Bullpen of Albers, Francis, Cormier, Dickson, Gagne. Closer by committee obviously. Also, could use Quantrill as player/coach.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 When is baseball gonna wake up and realize anytime Friedman is asking you about a player, you should probably take a really long look at why he's interested. Guy has made other GMs look stupid for 10 years
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I'd like to know exactly how much money it took the Dodgers to acquire him, or is that information never released.
