Brutal

If he's playing well enough to reach the bonus thresholds they should pay it and not mind

The Yankees are first in the AL East at 15-9. A-rod has been a big part of that, coming back after his ******** year-long suspension to put up a 150 wRC+ through the first month. It's looking possible that the $60 million he's owed won't be a complete writeoff. Everything is going better than expected. Better start a pissing match over $6 million.

The Yankees are embarrassing themselves. A-Rod deserves better than this.

Never even tested positive for PEDs. What defense do they possibly have?

I get that they will argue that ARod isn't "marketable" anymore, but it's all so awful. Who put a gun to Cashman's head and told him to write in all those bonuses? You were happy as s*** when Rodriguez was popping 40 dingers per year, but now he's old and they look for any excuse to get out of the contract that they agreed to. It's disgusting.

Yeah things must be pretty bad if one starts to sympathize with A-rod, and I do.

I've never liked A-Rod, but I have a lot of respect for the way he stayed in shape during his year away and has come back at 39 and been outstanding. The Yankees don't deserve the production he's given them.

All of this after stealing millions of dollars from him by somehow getting him suspended for an entire year for a first offense (that wasn't even really an offense).

I Hate the Yankees and Dislike A Rod but he is not a victim here, I for one will not feel sorry for him!

Sympathy for the Devil and the Devils in the Details!

Boo hoo, sux it both of them! This all comes from a place called Greed and as no reguard to baseball and how they both cheated the game!

Exactly how I feel about the situation. Arod didn't deserve to be suspended for a whole season and lose 27mil, and he doesn't deserve this ******** now. Its not like the Yankees didn't know he was juicing when he initially signed the contract. Everyone knew, and nobody cared. Now all of a sudden he gets suspended and dragged through a bed of nails even though he never actually tested positive. And he'll never get into the Hall of Fame even though he is one of the best shortstops/third basemen to ever play the game.

Meh whatever

Yep. There are literally hundreds of players in MLB using right now. AROD getting screwed. But he is a jerk, so I don't really care.

It's called compassion, I feel Bad for You.

Yes cause I should be compassionate to I multi millionaire who cheated and gained fortune and fame for it, Ya right!

Poor A Rod he just like Nelson Mandela ! Wtf

Baseball is one of the least physically demanding game. A 300 pounder can hold

a job for years.

Well hello there Mr. I've Never Played Baseball in my Life.

Sometimes I feel like I should re-evaluate things as Bonds and ARod are among my favourite ball players of all time.

Nah...I'm good.

Seriously? Compassion? LOL

Compassion is when someone suffers some type of loss out of the person's control. A-Rod was in total control and made the decision to cheat, he brought it all on himself.

Compassion? That's a joke. Unreal how some people think.

Weird that Nelson Cruz, Melky Cabrera, Everth Cabrera, or even Ryan Braun don't get nearly as much scorn as ARod. I've come to the conclusion that the "OMGZ HE CHEETED!!!" people just hate really talented players.

By the way, there are many accounts of "the pure" players cheating too, or at least trying by taking amphetamines. Includes Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and most players of that era. Every player is always trying to get an edge, ARod is no different.

Two wrongs do not make it right! Everybody does it, problem is not everyone does!

By them Taking em they had a direct impact on the outcome of all the games they played in, accolades and rewards increased pay, titles and championships they and there teams won!

They are worse then Pete Rose all he did as a manager was bet on his team to win! Big difference between the two acts !

Pete is banned for life but never cheated the game!

Also the Yankees are not mad that A Rod got caught, they are more upset by the fact because he got caught and now they can't market it and reap the millions of dollars they stood to make over it!

Both acts and actions based on greed !

A Rod deserved suspension, but like people pointed out it's his first offence and got over one year suspension without pay (and he wasn't even tested positive) while other people with their first offences got WAY less... This action is BS too. I f***ing hate A-Rod but I hate the Yankees more and this way they find a way not to lose money which is complete BS. f*** Cashman, and f*** the Commissioner if he doesn't side with A-Rod here. Hopefully he's better than Selig in this department. Edited by fatcowxlive

As to the comparative disdain for guys like ARod versus guys like Everth Cabrera ... no one cares about Everth Cabrera, generally. So they'll "care" less about him cheating. It's simply about the spotlight. You're more well known, you're going to get more praise, and more hate ... simply because of exposure. Even non-baseball fans know ARod. Casual baseball fans don't even know who Everth Cabrera is. Pretty much everyone hated Ryan Braun, and he was an extremely talented player, so I don't understand that mention. But, again, he just isn't as famous as ARod, so there will be less praise and less hate surrounding him.

It's not about hating talent. It's about more famous people receiving more attention, generally.

And you get famous in baseball by being _________

I really hope the Yankees lose bad on this one. No one forced them to give A Rod those milestone bonuses.

Lol how is it ********? It sounds like the Yankees foresaw this possibility and specifically built terms into the contract that makes these payouts payable at their discretion based on whether or not they can market the events.

I find it really surprising that a clause like this was even allowed to be part of the contract in the first place.

Isn't this like stripping Lance Armstrong of all his Tour de France records/titles? Seems fair in a lot of ways.

You don't reward a guy for breaking the rules. 1 year suspension and he's a new player, but his Hr count carries on? That's inconsistent.

Arod deserves to be paid out his contract. Incentives, however, he is undeserving of.

People hate A-Rod because he is/was a prick off the field too, it's not just his abilities/steroids/whatever on the field.
