Hey,

3 of us are travelling from NS to the Jays Home opener for my 30th birthday. What do I need to know ? We are staying on bond street looking for good places to have pops before and after the game !! Also how do we end up in the outfield patio bar also and is it a decent spot to watch a game ?

I wouldn't bother going to the outfield patio bar area. It's going to be so packed with people who had s***** 500 level seats and there's going to be so much s*** faced drunk non baseball fans there. I would just enjoy the game from your seats.

The patio is nice but when it's a packed house, it's crazy over there.

If i were you i'd probably come as early as they open the gate, i love taking in the view of the dome from inside.

Loose Moose and/or Jack Astors on Front Street are usually good places to go before/after the game. Real Sports is also a pretty cool experience (with all the TVs), but I prefer the environment of the other two more.

I only have one home opener experience but when I went we partied at the Steamwhistle brewery before the game and that was a good time. It was way too busy for tour but they gave you free beer as soon as you walked in which is better than a tour anyways.

I thought you said Pilsners are boring

are u staying at the bond palace?

being a former ryerson student, i loved the imperial pub on dundas n bond. even though theres a hint of racism and general hate for students, getting drunk and trolling the old regulars always a good time. you gotta hit up senators breakfast joint, its on victoria/dundas ( one block west of bond), really small place so theres always a lineup. if you wanna drink before the game, DO NOT GO TO LOOSE MOOSE on front. its good but its gets rammed before the game. i do recommend the bars on esplanade. They have 4 bars (beir market, tilted kilt, etc etc), a keg, spaghetti factory, so a good variety of grub n beer. Hit up king west after the game, but on monday it might not be as good as thursday or friday night.

also if ure going to the strippers, just go to zanzibar for shits and giggles. but save your money for brass rail.

if you want to add a little crazy than go to fillmores.

other option,

shark club(eaton centre atrium). best looking waiteress but no patio and a mission to smoke.

three breweries

Best plan for the home opener is honestly to stay away from the popular destinations. Start with a pint at the dive bar across from your hotel...the Imperial Pub. Go upstairs to the library, don't worry about the smell and make sure you punch a douchebag hipster (It's all part of the Imperial experience). Anyway near the dome if you get there early enough (3 or 4) you can get anywhere...but after the work crowd gets out places like Loose Moose or Jack Astors will be so packed that you'll see your waitress once in an hour. Shoeless Joe's is huge but it will end up packed too, same for Grace O'Malley's but at least you'll get beers quicker. The bars on the esplanade will be crowded but manageable as well. Tilted Kilt or Fionn McCools will be fine. Those are your mid-scale places (except for the Imperial). All the places are about 5 to 10 minute walk to the Dome.

First time it's been called a Palace. Our write-ups were a little too similar.

I didn't say Steam Whistle was a good beer. It isn't. Going there was a good time though.

I probably wouldn't go to Fillmores but two thumbs up on the rest.

If good beer is the priority. C'est What is close to the Rogers Centre and has a terrific selection.

They increased the price of their whapoos cider and chocolate ale. Really bugged me out since they're pretty expensive to start with. But you can't go wrong with ambrose or flying monkey.

Monday we are in section 106 row 5 and Tuesday section 130a row 2

so probably wise to stay in seats and not go to patio bar ?

C'est What has a terrific selection, though the service there is awful and slow, alongside with the expensive prices. Used to be a lot better, though the place has run down recently.

I'd check out Bar Hop. Its always busy regardless, though its up on King Street close to Spadina and the beer selection is awesome and the prices are decant as well. Far better than C'est What.

If you really want to check it out...go on Tuesday. There will probably be under 25K that day. For the opener don't move, you'll have a great view of the Rays bullpen...although you won't see much action there.

I'm just throwing out an idea here but have any of the mods/admin thought of trying to get hotels or bars to sponsor a little bit of the board? I'm not talking about huge banners but like, go to a bar near the stadium and mention this board and get $1 off a beer or something and somehow the board gets a little bit of money to deal with upkeep? Same with rooms for out-of-towners.

i'd drink more at game 2 (which probably will have less than half the opening day crowd) ... I wouldn't wanna waste too much game time lining up for the urinals at the home opener ... but that's just me (beer goes thru me.)

before your trip, check out the movie Goin' Down The Road (if ya haven't already seen it) haha. a classic.

Jeff Blair suggested fans might also want to give themselves an extra 40 minutes when going to the game. All ballparks will be using metal detectors, at all gates, which has resulted in long lines to get in.
