At 24, Drew Hutchison is Toronto's youngest opening-day starter since Todd Stottlemyre in 1990. Hutchison went 6 2/3 innings against the Yankees last July, helping Toronto end its 17-game losing streak in the Bronx. The Blue Jays have six rookies on their opening-day roster: center fielder Dalton Pompey, second baseman Devon Travis, starting pitchers Daniel Norris and Aaron Sanchez, and relief pitchers Miguel Castro and Roberto Osuna. Liam Hendricks officially became the 25th man on the roster and 8th arm in the pen, sending Goins down to AAA. Last year, New York didn't make the playoffs for the second straight year for the first time since 1993, which was also the last time Toronto appeared in the postseason. Yankees: Tanaka was a logical choice once he demonstrated in Spring Training that he could pitch effectively with the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament that interrupted his first season after signing a seven-year, $155 million contract to leave Japan. He made his big league debut against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre last April. On Tanaka's third pitch, Melky Cabrera homered, but the Yankees went on to win the game. New York set team records for players (58) and pitchers (33) last year, and four-fifths of the starting rotation spent time on the disabled list. The Yankees scored 633 runs, 13th among the 15 AL teams, and their .307 on-base percentage was ahead of only Seattle. Alex Rodriguez hasn't played a full season since 2007 because of the suspension, two hip operations and a variety of lesser injuries. He lost his third base job to Chase Headley and figures to be primarily a designated hitter and backup to Headley and first baseman Mark Teixeira. After serving the one-year ban, he's back on the active roster as his 40th birthday approaches in July, owed $61 million for the final three seasons of his contract. ''I feel like I'm 18 years old with Lou Piniella in Seattle again,'' he said. A-Rod hit .267 in spring training (12 for 45) with one double, three homers and four RBIs. Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Oh good, Navarro over Smoak, what a super great way to start the season!
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Also... WTF? The Blue Jays matched their season worst with three hits, one of which was a home run by Bautista. He has reached base in 20 straight while hitting .333 with 17 RBIs, but Melky Cabrera is just 2 for 15 during the club's four-game road losing streak.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Excited baseball is finally here. Let's go Jays.Top 6 in the order looks lethal, hope Reyes has a better tear getting on base.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Navarro starting at DH. Oh, goody. Then, when Martin needs a breather, Navarro and his s***** ass framing will be catching. All Dioner, all the time.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Also... WTF? That got carried over from the last GDT I made lol
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Why is Navarro the DH, what the hell Gibby and AA?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 That got carried over from the last GDT I made lol Ban
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 That got carried over from the last GDT I made lol Spring training is over, fatcow. GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Can we trade Dioner already?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Spring training is over, fatcow. GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME! Unfortunately the bluejays twitter and Scott MacArthur confirmed that Navarro is dhing
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hoping Tanaka's diminished velocity means he'll be more hittable. Or he'll turn into Crafty Buehrle.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hoping Tanaka's diminished velocity means he'll be more hittable. Or he'll turn into Crafty Buehrle. Lets spread some good energy around, be s***** Tanaka and let the jays crush you
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Unfortunately the bluejays twitter and Scott MacArthur confirmed that Navarro is dhing Dammit, I was hoping that I had suffered severe head trauma (or more likely some sort of alcohol-related brain defect) and that was in my imagination.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Dammit, I was hoping that I had suffered severe head trauma (or more likely some sort of alcohol-related brain defect) and that was in my imagination. AA and Gibby being dumn, what can one say
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I was so pumped for Opening Day. Navarro's name in the lineup is such a buzzkill. I thought after the way Smoak finished Spring Training that he was certain to start at 1B. Might as well drop Smoak entirely at this point, since Valencia will play 1B against lefties and Gibby prefers Navarro's fat ass against righties so much that he's willing to hurt the defense at the same time. Oh well. Enough negativity. Let's go Jays.
LTR Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hoping Tanaka's diminished velocity means he'll be more hittable. Or he'll turn into Crafty Buehrle. If ST stats are any indication (they aren't) he is his typical dominant self.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 To people who say managers don't matter much, I raise you a John Gibbons. No reason Dioner should be starting over Smoak.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Dammit, I was hoping that I had suffered severe head trauma (or more likely some sort of alcohol-related brain defect) and that was in my imagination. Gibbons is managing a MLB team. When that reality sets in, expect the worst and hope for the best. That's all you can do.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Navarro DH and EE at 1B... what a pile of fail.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I get the impression Gibbons is putting his feels ahead of logic in this case. That's what a s*** manager would do yep.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Gibbons is managing a MLB team. When that reality sets in, expect the worst and hope for the best. That's all you can do. Still the best manager the Jays have had since that dude who did not lose a leg in Vietnam.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Still the best manager the Jays have had since that dude who did not lose a leg in Vietnam. lol, that says a lot about the Jays as an organization.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Still the best manager the Jays have had since that dude who did not lose a leg in Vietnam. Better than Buck, sure. I'd take everyone else over him, though. Even Farrell.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 f***ing Gibby handicapping us right out of the gate. Can't use our best players ???? WTF is wrong with that *******.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Why the hate on using Navarro at DH instead of Smoak at 1B? There can't be that much difference...
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 I read that earlier lol. You know you f***ed up when Wilner has to come up with something REALLY stupid to back it up LOL, giving him the opening start just because he was paid to be our starting catcher last year, yeah ok
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Why the hate on using Navarro at DH instead of Smoak at 1B? There can't be that much difference... EE should be the DH and Smoak at first. It's a ripple effect to plug him in. It's one game and quite frankly I don't care that much but they should always try to put their best team out there especially before the injuries hit when they have to throw s*** at the wall to see what sticks.
