Is there a short hand method or do you just have to start a 1 and work your way up until you're there?

It's actually easier to count the digits and start from the left. Haven't had to do it since my CCNA (my prof wouldn't allow binary calculators so we had to do it either on paper or in our heads...) which was nearly 3 years ago now, so I'm way, way slower on it.

Still don't get it but I'm probably too old for this particular new trick.

1010101 is 7 digits long, the 7th digit (from the right) is 64, 5th is 16, 3rd is 4, 1st is 1... So 64+16+4+1 = 85. (I just find it's easier to go left to right than right to left, but maybe that's not easiest for everyone).

O.K. so the trick is to memorize what 1, 10, 100, 1000, etc. represent and then add up wichever ones are visually represented in the sequence?

Yeah. So, for networking, we work with octets. So they go as follows... 128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1 and 1 is "on" while 0 is "off". so, for example, 11010001 would be 128 + 64 + 16 + 1 or 209. (this is why network addresses max out at 255, or 11111111).

I want to change my prediction....

I have found a new item that adds some information that was missing...

There is an article on the Blue Jays site that says Jose Reyes is going to concentrate more on getting on base, seeing pitches and scoring 120 runs...

This indicates to me an important point. Beeston really has no more influence. In past years Beeston would have Cito give the boys a speech to get them ready for the season.

Cito - "boys... if you're right handed try and kill the third base coach, if you're left handed try and kill the first base coach, don't wait for your pitch or you'll be caught napping, if your homerun hooks foul it means you had a good swing and I'll put it in the books even if the official scorer won't, if you want to do math go to math class but if you want to score runs get some rbis."

That seems to not be happening this year -- Gibby is going to try and get the boys on base and Beeston can't interfere... Go Gibby!

Beeston is worth -20 WAR, so if there is no Beeston that is 20 more wins.

I officially change my prediction from 79 to 99... I will win this contest!

Reyes might as well aim for 135 runs scored and grab the Jays single season record from Shawn Green. Go big or go home, brah.

I'll give them 75 wins and fourth place. Stroman's loss too much to overcome and the young pitchers like Osuna and Castro prove to be too young to handle the tough AL east. On a positive not Gibbons is fired after this year and possibly AA also. Gibbons will prove once again unable to coach the players to play fundamental baseball such as successful bunting and moving runners over. Encanacion's back will put him back on the disabled list this year.

*sighs*

I will guess 88 wins , having some worries about some of the young guys , at least one doesn't stick . They will have to make a move for starting pitching by june. hopefully the offence scores enough runs in support of some rocky starts early in the year , Norris is the rock in the middle of that starting rotation 15 wins .

135 will actualy be quite hard... Barry Bonds never did it despite having a .600 on base percentage. Ricky Henderson only did it once.

However I believe Jose Reyes can do it. I believe he can. Bautista will do it too. He will knock himself in 50 times, Then the other guys will have to knock him in 85 times. They can do it.

Yeah, it would be very difficult for Reyes to do it ... he'd have to really raise his OBP haha ... and (of course) play in close to all 162.

When Shawn Green scored 134 runs for the Jays, he was on base 260+ times (which included 42 HRs and 45 doubles)

edit: i'm surprised Bonds never quite scored 130 runs (just fell short a few times)

87. I think Sanchez struggles early on so Aa goes out and get a stater and move Sanchez to the BP.

Does that happen though??? I mean who would be willing to give up one of their SP when the season is young? Price would be high in terms of SP prospects going back.

Judging by the fact Cole Hammels hasn't happened yet, I'd say it ain't happening after the season starts either.

Here it is, 59 predictions are in. So far, the Mean, Median, Mode of the predictions are all 87 Wins. Last year the Mean, Median, and Mode were 86, 86, and 83, respectively so a little bit more optimism this year.

I'm off to NYC for Opening Day...so i'll update for any remaining guesses when I return. Go JAYS Go.
