Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I know the majority of you are probably in the GTA or at least Ontario and thus probably could care less. But as a fan in Calgary who was waiting for a game to be on TV. I am pretty pissed off that today's game is not. I think its a real opportunity lost for Rogers. The TV market market nationwide could potentially destroy the markets the Dodgers and Yankees have. With Sportsnet West, 360 and SN1 there is no reason why they couldn't show the Jays and whichever non-playoff Alberta hockey team happens to have a day game. There have been times where they have cut out from a Jays extra innings game to go to Flames Connected(pre game show). I realize that the ratings may not be good in Alberta for baseball but there are ways to build a fan base and ways to alienate one.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 You know what i find weird, each network has like 4-6 channels and they always show the exact same thing, why have so many channels if you don't show different content?

Something to do with analog cable / satellite users who get local Sportsnet channel. So if you're in the West coast and tune in to sportsnet you're essentially getting Sportsnet West I think. So it's 4 channels to all digital users, analog is only 1 and I guess airing the same content across all 4 is more beneficial for them throughout.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 The game appears to be on TV in my region, is there a possibility that it will be blacked out?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Like you said it comes down to ratings/money. I'm interested to know what the ratings for a ST game are in the GTA (after the 5th inning). I'm not sure if watching ST baseball would really help build a stronger fan base. That being said, it probably beats darts/poker/re-run specials or that other s*** that is usually on.
Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Over time, if the games are on consistently that will build a fan base. Putting the full games on the lousy sports radio station they own would be smart too. They own the Jays; they should be invested in that. Just stick it on one of three channels, you're already broadcasting it.

Blame the schedule makers who scheduled the Oilers game this afternoon.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 That sucks for you guys. Saying that it is preseason and the only people who are going to be super pissed off they can't see a spring training game are the big fans like yourself who are going to watch the games during the regular season regardless.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 The game appears to be on TV in my region, is there a possibility that it will be blacked out? No. Western viewers are blacked out due to a Oilers/Canes game. Canes are playing a day game.
Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 So it's going to be on Pacific, East, Ontario but not West? and if you're in the west and try to tune in to Pacific, East or Ontario would it be blacked out? I am not sure. I am debating ordering Sportsnet Ontario today to find out. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Thats the way Rogers is thinking but its flawed. Its not about only pissing off some die hards. It should be about building a larger fan base. This would lead to more revenue and maybe a Major League calibre 2bman, 1Bman or bullpen.
Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 No. Western viewers are blacked out due to a Oilers/Canes game. Canes are playing a day game. You would think that with 3 channels, there would be a way to show both.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 So it's going to be on Pacific, East, Ontario but not West? and if you're in the west and try to tune in to Pacific, East or Ontario would it be blacked out? I don't think so. MLB doesn't have the f***ed up blackout regime that the NHL does. If you can get a channel with the game on it should be viewable. But people who are not in the west who try to watch the hockey game will be blacked out.

I don't really agree that showing a preseason game is going to have any real impact on a fan base. On the bright side for a diehard like yourself i'm sure someone will post a stream of the game so you can still watch it.

But having the games consistently available on radio and TV will have a very positive affect.
Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Pacific viewers will get the Jays game, as will East and Ontario. I mean, West, 360 and Sportsnet One. Those are the three channels available standard in Alberta. You could show the Oilers game on one of those channels and the ball game on one of the others.

Which is actually fair because the Oilers rights are only regional and they would prefer that fans elsewhere purchase Game Centre or Centre Ice. That is actually smart thinking. Not sure how they can be smart with hockey but idiots when it comes to baseball.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 It's not just a pre-season thing, happens during the regular season too! That and in Saskabush none of the major radio stations even carry the games. Couple small Hickville ones but good luck finding the signal! I had a bartender at sports bar in Toon Town who would not even put the jays on TV. Then to add insult he throws up a f***ing Yankees game on the big screen! Needless to say I lost it ! Lol
Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Not gonna happen. Tennis and NHL commitments(Red Wings/Bruins on 360, Davis Cup on One) Davis Cup is not even Canada, and I don't know if its even live.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 This is why I have long said they need a all bluejays channel, All jays games, minor league games, and Afl and winter leagues! Broadcast any canadian ball games like Robbie's tournament, world baseball classic ! Show classic replays of jays games! Where are they now stories...etc etc etc!
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 It might be that Sportsnet One and 360 aren't part of as many tv packages nationwide so placing them on there instead might actually limit their exposure. Plus One & 360 might not be viewed internally as a major channel on their network thus the Jays could get less viewers overall even though most people have the channels.
Ultimate Verified Member Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 IT would be like Leafs TV and the regular Jays games would still be on other channels.

Curious why they don't have "Jays tv" when the Raptors/Leafs have their own channels. It's a good point.
