He put up a 4.02 xFIP (3.93 SIERRA) and 1.3 WAR in just over a half season of innings. Nothing wrong with that at all from a 5th starter.

Unless he is horrendous with money management, I doubt this has anything to do with that. He was an elite SP in his prime and probably wants to go out on a high note.

I would think he has a desire to win a World Series. I would also think he would like to reach 150 wins (he has 139) and 2000 strikeouts (he has 1988).

Plus, this unnamed player has to meet the criteria you listed in terms of his previous 3 seasons. I don't think guys with that track record and at the same age sign minor league deals, but I'm often wrong so we'll see.
