baloojayz Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Please tell me how we could add 5 wins there for $17M/year. Navarro=free Melky-14M or less Saunders
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Last 2 years. Everyone: "Ugh Happ is so bad." This offseason: "If Fat Alex has any sense he'll trade Happ for Saunders. WAR!! etc...." Trade happens: "AA must have had the good tzatziki this is the perfect trade. Saunders is made of glass but I would still do it. Screw Melky and his regression! WAR!!! etc...." This morning, "Happ is going to be amazing. Why would we trade him? The trade is questionable at best. AA is so fat." FIN Dogg, Are you there?
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Wilner already busy assigning unrealistic expectations to the replacements. I think I know why he's so fond of Pillar.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Navarro=free Melky-14M or less Saunders Where are the other 3 wins coming from? What about the 5 or 6 wins that you need to make up for in 2016?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I think I know why he's so fond of Pillar. You are allowed to say "Wilner loves his jews" around here
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 It's true though, this is direct consequence of AA upgrading what we already have and ignoring what we don't. Why do you keep beating the Melky drum, as though getting him at 3 years/$42M was some sort of coup for the White Sox? That's not a dollar figure that I'd have been comfortable with for Melky, and I'm much happier with Martin at 5/$82. Martin is the clear better player of the two, at a much more crucial position. Melky hits for average, that's about it, he's an extremely sub-par defender at the easiest position on the field.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Dump Navarro for whatever you can get. Use his 5M + whatever we have left to sign Olivera who should be athletic enough to play there.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 You are allowed to say "Wilner loves his jews" around here No, it's those dreamy eyes.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I think I know why he's so fond of Pillar. He's not, he just perpetually sucks the cock of the blue jays every chance he gets like Rogers has trained him to do.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Where are the other 3 wins coming from? What about the 5 or 6 wins that you need to make up for in 2016? You don't think Navarro Melky and Saunders add up to 5 WAR? 2016 is a new yr, could have signed any other FA including a pitcher esp with Buehrle off the books.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Did Jack Z mention something at the end of last year about Saunders being injury prone? Freak accident obviously, but still.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 What about Victorino? I imagine he can be had for very little with Boston's glut of bodies and his contract.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 What about Victorino? I imagine he can be had for very little with Boston's glut of bodies and his contract. Heard a report that Victorino is already penciled into RF for the Red Sox.... It seems like it is Craig that does not have a home in boston.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Not quite, and we have both Saunders and Martin right now? It's not one or the other. Yeah I don't know how in one breath he can argue that Martin cost us Happ and then in another argue that Saunders would be around if Melky were signed.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Not quite, and we have both Saunders and Martin right now? It's not one or the other. Could have acquired Saunders for CF though not LF, packaged Pompey for something nice/ not rush him into an everyday starting role so fast.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 At least Pillar should be a reasonable replacement and only cost us half a win there. One more OF injury and were really screwed though. A half win is optimistic, but I still think 2nd will be the worst performing position.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Good thing AA built a team with strong depth I f***ing hate you.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 This is why I wasn't umping for joy when Gose was traded. We have no idea whether Pillar and Pompey will be acceptable major leaguers this year, and the depth Gose provides by being able to defend all 3 OF positions and provide value was a great tool from the bench.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Could have acquired Saunders for CF though not LF, packaged Pompey for something nice/ not rush him into an everyday starting role so fast. So if you don't think not signing Melky dictated the Saunders trade, why do you argue that Martin cost us Happ? Sounds like you would have traded Happ for Saunders either way.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 That really sucks, but on the plus side, we do appear to still have money available this offseason. We should be able to pick someone up. Who knows if Boston would trade within the division, but Craig would be a fantastic target. JBJ could be a possibility too I suppose. Guerrero would be a perfect target from the Dodgers, especially since he's blocked everywhere on that team, and can't be sent to the minors without his permission. He could also slot in to 2nd once Saunders comes back. Ethier might be a good target as well, and he wants to be traded. If the Dodgers were willing to take maybe Navarro and eat 5M / year off Ethier's contract, that could work rather well. As someone else said, Inciarte could be a good fit from the D-backs. Bourjos from the Cards could also be a nice fit. From our own team, aside from those mentioned, I could see Kawasaki as a potential guy too.
baubau Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Colby, come back!! Ew... I feel a little worse for Saunders in this because he was exited to be a part of the Jays, came in 2 weeks early in spring training and tried to get to know everyone as best as he could. Please don't turn into Brett Lawrie the OF version..
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I was thinking of Alex Guerrero as well. His bat looks legit but he's probably not an infielder. Stick him in LF and watch him hit. Only problem is dealing with Friedman.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 You guys do realize Saunders has a career 80 wrc+ against lefties right? The Jays were planning on playing him against lefties which wouldn't have been good. This isn't as big of loss as you guys are making this out to be.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Should have kept Melky. FFS. Just wait until Bautista sneezes and his arm falls off and Martin trips over a sunflower seed and dislocates a shoulder.........u know it's coming with this team.

Praxis Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Colby come back, any kind of fool can see, There was something with the K's and your redneck hairdo, Colby come back, bring your dad and high free agent's fee We were wrong and we just can't win without you.

Probably belongs in LF, but when Saunders comes back, you could always try him at 2B. No room in LA and as mentioned, he can't be send down. Seems like almost a perfect.
