#7 is very positive ranking for the Jays. Offence is dependent on health of JB, EE and JD - but these guys can mash like no other threesome in MLB

NIce to see an unbiased opinion that focuses on the positives with this team and not just what the Jays are lacking or what they didn't do

congratulations everybody. we f***ing made it!!!

Exactly! Woohoo!

AA can stop trying to improve the team now. We will sneak in with an 87 win season apparently.

New avatar for the occcasion!

I hate to be a debbie downer but I have a feeling the Jays won't make it this year - mainly due to injuries, regression and most of all, our bullpen.

I should probably head over to the bet thread and put down my playoff tickets..

It was also a bit curious that La Russa hired a veterinarian named Dr. Ed Lewis, whom he has known for 30 years and worked with in the past, as the team's director of analytics.

I never heard about this...just lol.

Why not just use actual projections: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=ALL&teamid=1

6th in baseball without Martin's framing.

Interesting read, thanks for the link. I'm a little higher on some of the Jays (Dickey, Hutch and Pompey) but agree overall with the projects. I'm actually surprised they are ranked as high as they are, both in the fangraphs ranking and Schoenfield. I think the fangraphs page is over projecting Boston, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see...that's why they play the games.

Here's hoping the Jays live up to the hype!

That shows the quality of competition the Jays (and Red Sox et. al) face. Those win values are simulated based on schedule. They project the team to be the 6th best, but the mean simulation with schedule nets 84 wins.

Ah haaaaa

Thanks, that makes sense now

Unbalanced schedule...

Nice to see that they have concerns about Boston's pitching, and the aging of Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz.. if they continue to regress, Boston will be a sub-.500 team, and Farrell, along with Cherington, will be looking for jobs by mid-season. After spending $190M+, it's playoffs or bust, especially with a major rebuild coming once Ortiz retires, as they have no suitable replacement for him in the system, and the prices in free agency and trade markets are way above what Boston can afford.. I know they're a big market team, but losing a 30/100 bat is going to hurt. None of HanRam, Sandoval, Betts can match that..

Because that doesn't appeal to 95% of ESPN's target audience and won't get them hits. Unless you meant why did the OP post it here...it's because many Jays fans have an inferiority complex and feel that the Jays are ignored by American media.

It's way better than O's forum ranking us 4th in the AL East... Ill take it.

The O's forum couldn't correctly predict the outcome of a Globetrotters/Generals game, I wouldn't take them too seriously.

San Diego is one team also, to me anyway, that stands out as undervalued in that table. I mean, Christ, they've added a ton of talent. Most coming off a bad year I suppose, which prolly undervalues players like Kemp and Myers who could break out a bit.

how does one break out for a bit, Myers has serious plate discipline and contact issues. He needs to learn how to hit

San Diego is a .500 team give or take a couple of games.

The worst ranking on that list is probably the Red Sox. Or Baltimore, depending how you look at it. I'll take the over on 84 for them.
