Anyone else cheering for A-Rod to set some new career highs this season?

 

Lowkey I am too. I need productive people to hate from Boston and New York. A-Rod getting good again would be perfect (just not against us).

 

I also want Hanley to keep what he's doing up so he can be the next Manny Ramirez for old times sake

Buckhholz is garbage. He has gone full out Ricky Romero. Hope they get into that tired Sox bullpen early.

 

As I said, why the hell didn't Farrell get a long-man called up after that 19 inning game?? At least the Yankees did something with Matt Tracy(DFAd today) and Kyle Davies(signed today)

Yep. I used to hate him unconditionally but the way the Yankees and MLB have treated him is just ridiculous. The Yankees will apparently try to re-define the term "milestone" to get out of paying him home run bonuses.

 

I'm also cheering for Tanaka to crush the Red Sox in this game and make the New York media look silly.

 

I still hate him uncontrollably, but I want him to do well to justify my hate. Also because f*** Cashman

I actually find that kind of interesting. In the contract it's labelled as a "marketing agreement" that he gets $6M for passing each of five HR milestones.

 

I don't think they'll try to redefine "milestone". I think the obvious angle is to say that because of Alex's conduct he's defamed himself and the Yankees so much that the Yankees have lost all marketing opportunities from him passing those milestones. If Rodriguez passing those milestones is no longer marketable then, at fault by his own conduct, he should not benefit from the marketing agreement.

But that has to be said in the contract right? The marketing value of milestones? Because if it only says that for each hr milestone passing we pay $6M there's not much they can really do

People (judges, arbitrators) imply terms in contracts all of the time. It doesn't have to be explicitly stated.

 

They would try to get at the "spirit" of the clause, as best then can, by reading the entire agreement. IMO the spirit of the clause - what the parties had in mind - is that the Yankees would be benefiting from him succeeding and reaching those milestones as much as A.Rod would be. In reality that's not going to happen though.

 

I would like A Rod's chances in an arbitration but I think there's at least some merit to the Yankee's position.

That's true actually. But I would think A-Rod would win it after a dragged out fight, he has good lawyer money :P

If I remember right, he's kind of like Zaun. Great when he talks about actual game fundamentals, horrible if he talks about stats.

All ESPN guys (and most of the mainstream media) are clueless when it comes to statistics.
