Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 My concern was raised by somebody in the comments section - sure you're reducing the intensity of each start but you're dramatically reducing the time between games. But such a hard limit on starters doesn't necessarily need to result in dropping two starters, right? And that's where the increased pitch counts for relievers comes in I suppose. You can still have 5-6 starters, but you'd vastly reduce a pen, leaving an outstanding bench. It'll certainly be neat to see.

MLBPA would file a grievance against the team unfortunately. The Rays have already been warned of this.

It seems sort of strange - I mean if the argument for it is that pitchers will perform better and be injured less frequently then the pitchers will probably come to appreciate that. And if the roster size per team isn't' changing there's no loss of employment, right? However, I suppose it's players in an "iconic" (or something) position that are being replaced? I dunno. Got any links to this grievance stuff? (I'll look backwards in the thread to see what's been linked, just heading to bed now though).

This was first hand information from someone in the Rays organization. Creating starters out of guys that wouldn't normally start is a positive for those guys, but there are guys that get paid to eat innings (and those guys have traditionally been paid more than the 130 inning guys, despite lower numbers). Also there is no traditions in arbitration to judge these guys, so it makes it tough. In the end MLBPA doesn't like change (nor does baseball in general), but I wouldn't think they would go public with anything until they felt it was necessary. Tampa was forced into a hybrid of what they would really like to do, but they also had so many injuries that it made it happen with too much notice. I was in Tampa for a game just after Erasmo was pulled in a 1 hitter and the person I know there was telling me that they scoured every media source to see what the reaction was.

At the very least, it would be fun to try in an MLB The Show Franchise. I'm definitely doing this over the holidays when I get some time lol.

That's a great signing for a rebuilding team. Guy would be sick if he ever managed to cut down the walks for any length of time. Throws as hard as anyone.

Thomas Malthus Verified Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 So are the Giants out of the running on Maeda then?
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to Sid Seixeiro's opinions on baseball. This needs to stop.

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 They got Iwakuma. Not bad but they lost Greinke, supposedly got Chapman but got cockblocked at the last second, and were supposedly suitors for Price and didn't end up getting him.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Doesn't CA have a much higher tax rate than Arizona? I think Cueto is actually making less with the Giants than if he would have signed in Arizona.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I'm guessing LA will be all in on Maeda now.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Heyward's contract details came out. Understand why he took less total money now as it looks like a great contract for the player. Also came with a 20 Million signing bonus.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 So basically 3/78 with a full no trade clause and a 5/106 player option.
