Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 "Cano had the worst season for an everyday player I've seen in 20 years at the big league level. He was the most awful player I've ever seen" This guy is f***ing dumn. Cano had 21 HR and a 116 wRC+, which is probably about what you would expect for his age, skillset, and home park. That's by no means a terrible middle of the order hitter. It's not Cano's fault that Jack Z gave him a completely myopic contract. Cano didn't get that staff fired, they got themselves fired for incompetently putting an uncompetitive team on the field for several years in a row.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 What are your thoughts on Puig? Your son plays with him. Well this is between you and me, but I'll tell you what. When the highest paid player on the Los Angeles Dodgers goes to the owner to discuss what the team needs to do to improve and says "you've got to get rid of Puig", that tells you all you need to know. Wow. So that's an Adrian Gonzalez quote? Adrian isn't the highest paid player. So a Kershaw quote? I didn't say his name. And whoever else might be listening to your show.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I know the clubhouse argument annoys a lot of people (me included) but I've read that Puig is pretty f***ing terrible.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 lol Puig is clearly a clubhouse cancer if the best pitcher in the world and a heavy analytic FO wants him traded. You keep saying this and ignoring the possibility (likelihood) that the heavy analytics FO doesn't think he's very good.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 You keep saying this and ignoring the possibility (likelihood) that the heavy analytics FO doesn't think he's very good. But projections!!!!!!!

I'd easily put 100$ on the driving force being his attitdude/makeup compared to his talent. They probably think his talent level isn't worth the headaches he causes. As a 3-4 Win player on a very cheap contract thats not the type of player you go out and trade especially when you will be selling low. Reminds me of the Escobar situation in a way. Dodgers should get a whole lot more than what Escobar got though.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 It's actually pretty amazing that Bryce was unanimous given that his team didn't make the playoffs. He was so good you couldn't not vote for him and all these writers knew it
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Who else was going to win it that is on a contender? Rizzo?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Do front offices even worry that much about high end starters coming off TJS these days?? How much does it affect his trade value? Almost all of them come back just fine these days. Edited November 20, 2015 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Who else was going to win it that is on a contender? Rizzo? Exactly. There was literally no one else you could make any case for whatsoever, especially since Goldy played on a s***** team. f***, Arietta maybe bit its too huge of a strech to give it to a pitcher when you have a position player who had a season like Harper's. Keep in mind that this is the last year where that contract is valid though. He can choose arbitration instead of the contract starting in 2017.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Or the FO thinks Puig's trade value is better than his actual value going forward.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 lol Puig is clearly a clubhouse cancer if the best pitcher in the world and a heavy analytic FO wants him traded. I was sighing at the former part, not about Puig.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I question whether they think he's both good enough and healthy enough to be a 3-4 win player going forward. Thats fair. I just think that the biggest reason they want him traded is that they think the makeup/character isn't worth the headaches and distractions that his production provides.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 A's DFA A.J. Griffin I think that we should claim him and bring him to Spring Training. He's arb eligible, but it will be for the minimum and we can cut him at a percentage if it doesn't work out.

Not that they gave up anything, but I hope the Tigers got salary relief.

Not that they gave up anything, but I hope the Tigers got salary relief. I could actually see Krol as still turning into a good reliever, if he can ever get people off his fastball. Don't really know anything about Speier, but the numbers look good.
