KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Wonder if Fernandez would be more tame in the Jays clubhouse. Those reports out of Miami made him out to be one of the worst teammates in the sport and it got so bad to the point that teammates hoped he would fail. That act sure as hell wouldn't work in a clubhouse with Bautista, JD, Tulo and Martin. I have to admit this is all new to me. I wasn't aware of his issues. Where is this coming from? Do you have a link?

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 As a fan yeah but players on his team don't think that way.. They were perfectly fine with playing with a wife beater. j/k

As I reported last week and on Tuesday, the Marlins front office is not happy with Fernandez's attitude. "Jose talks to management like they are children," another player source told me. I've now learned, it goes beyond that. On at least two occasions in the Marlins clubhouse this season, Fernandez approached Hill --- according to multiple player sources --- and openly said "when are you going to trade me?" "There were times this season where, not all, but some players and coaches hoped Jose would go out on the mound and get shelled," a player source told me. "We thought it would get him to be more humble." The stories I've been told by several player sources within the last few weeks certainly paint a different picture of the team and their fan-friendly, star pitcher. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria implemented a team rule stating players and coaches are not permitted to wear pullover hoodies during batting practice or in the dugout during a game unless the team is playing in cold weather conditions. "That's a rule that Fernandez doesn't care about," one player source told me. Casey McGehee --- who the Marlins brought back mid-season --- got into a shouting match with Fernandez before one game, I'm told. "Jose was late and Casey gave it to him," the source said. http://slaterscoops.com/news/2015/11/18/the-miami-marlins-clubhouse-was-a-circus-literally

Thats why I give zero credit to Rogers for hiring Shapiro. They just got lucky AF that Shapiro fell in front of them at the perfect time. The Org. could easily of been set back 5-10 years if they picked Kenny Williams, Dan Duquette or any of these other guys.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Weird that a guy called up at 20 years old, skipping AA and AAA, would be... immature. Weird.

He talked about that at the Prime Time Sport Management conference. He has ties in Toronto and said it was Beeston asking him to come in, and that the ownership group and he were never on the same page. It really seems more and more like there was a battle between who got to pick the replacement. I think Beeston always felt he earned the right to pick his replacement.

Came here to post this. It looks like a big part of his great defensive metrics is his ability to generate a ton of weak ground balls back to the mound. He creates his own opportunities to make easy outs, and these helps him rack up great defensive metrics and beat DIPS. Great pitching is at least partially responsible for the great fielding metrics.

If my teammates and coaches were openly hoping I got rocked every time I went out on the mound I'd ask for a trade too. Not denying that Jose is a douche, but there's two sides to every story.

I'm sure they hoped he would fail because he is a piece of s*** not just for no reason. I bet the team being bad has something to do with his attitude but he may just be a bad apple like Puig.

I don't disagree with you, as Donaldson seemed to have "attitude issues" in Oakland, and he fit in just fine, but the issues from Fernandez could be do to his personality (like Paplebon), instead of do to his surroundings (ie. JD). That said, I'd do it because his ability is far too ridiculous to overlook based on perceived personality defects.

AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 What kind of player with any leverage wouldn't want to be traded from the Marlins? One of the worst organizations in professional sports and you have literally 0 chance of winning anything. Stanton is an idiot for resigning there.

If someone offered you a $325M contract, you would take it, regardless of who was offering it. He will still probably be traded at some point.
