jays76 Verified Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Not so sure Dickey is the obvious opener. Stroman really has a strong case both statistically (obv.), and from a marketing standpoint. Young, charismatic, handsome, mini-stud. What's not to like? Or a sulky knucklballer. Hey I don't disagree with the reasons but I think just having the veteran tenure will land him the slot. Didn't he open the past 2 seasons?

Didn't he open the past 2 seasons? He did. And how has that worked out? Make Dickey the underdog and start him second or 4th (with Burly going 2). Put a burr under his saddle as they say. I think Dickey is a great no. 3, and a bullpen band-aid, but you have to go with the hot commodity.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 That's a good point and I think it would make a lot of sense/please most people if they went: Dickey Stroman Buehrle Hutch #5 Then you still give Dickey the opening day start but giving Stroman the home opener shows a lot of confidence in him as well. It's a win-win situation IMO since you still break up the soft tossers. Think it would please even more people if it went: Shields Stroman Dickey Hutch Buehrle Even more sooo !
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Let it go people... we are NOT going Shields, can't believe there's two 9-page threads about it... Maybe Rogers Marketing staff should take note and quantify what it might mean to the financial bottom line of this team! Add in playoffs and a World Series and I say 20 mill is more then covered EASY!
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I'd bounce your balls myself if we could pull that off. lmao.

Of course, Shields is signing for about $70m, sooooo still about $50m short, lol

Of course, Shields is signing for about $70m, sooooo still about $50m short, lol So win the World Series and this years takin care of! Next year will work itself out all by subtraction buehrle, ituris, romero and navarro what's that like a 36 mill savings alone off the books. We are not playing to win next year, you play to win in the now! Also with what we believe to be a suspect pen, a 200+ inning starter like James helps the pen also!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 But payroll is going up Beeston said soo! Let's say when he said that they had booked on a 5% increase that takes us to near 144 mill. Even with Donaldson' arb saying he wins! We are at what 115-116 ish! Add 12 mill to field 10 more players to fill the roster and we are now sitting at 128 ish mill for opening day payroll meaning there should be around 15 mill hiding somewhere already! So really really we are talking Rogers will not approve a 5 - 10 mill increase ASAP to get james shields! if james where Dominican, pass the hat already would have been done! Lol Imagine big James with our elite shinny new pitch framing machine! Dream and Dream big what james could do! Rogers, Beeston and AA get it done! Please and thank you!
shortstop Verified Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 BBBB, I think the impact on the falling CAD $, as his been discussed on the boards, is the elephant in the room & imo, much more serious than AA/PB are letting on

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 This has been discussed ad nauseum, pretty sure we won't feel the impact for another few years or something So much Jays revenue is in Cdn$, the impact is immediate
admin Site Manager Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 What Krylian said. It SHOULD be Stroman, but Dickey uhhh... has earned it? Is older? I dunno. Some excuse. I agree, they'll probably give it to Dickey just because it's what you're 'supposed' to do.
polar bear Verified Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Can definitely see that from Edwin. I think the Bautista stuff gets overblown. Wears his heart on his sleeve type guy. Actually Bautista should learn to shut his mouth, and maybe he'd start getting Some calls go his way. Heart on sleeve type guy? Don't make me laugh.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 So the canadian dollar is falling so let's not invest in a people who might help us actually help us win a World Series! Hmmm interesting! Well then let's just start the Fire f***ing Sale Now, shall we! Get all the prospects and rookies and we should be primed for when the dollar rebounds! We should have a young all star team by then!
shortstop Verified Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I hear Ya Bbbb, but whether or not Rogers will let AA pass tge budget limit is a separate issue. I think reality is (rightly or wrongly) AA has a budget & AA must account for the reality most revenues are in CAD
