Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Ken Rosenthal Source says #BlueJays also asked on Papelbon - and also are on his no-trade list. @jeffpassan said serious talks b/w #Brewers, #Phillies.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Jeff "PTBNL" Hoffman for Papelbon in 3..2...1
GNick49 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Jeff "PTBNL" Hoffman for Papelbon in 3..2...1 That would be circumventing league rules.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 That would be circumventing league rules. It would be incredibly dumb, but pretty sure that's well within the rules...
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 That would be circumventing league rules. No, no it wouldn't be.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Why not just sign K-rod? Last night I dreamt the Jays signed Shield to something absurdly reasonable like a 3 year deal. I don't typically make dreams like that. The funny thing is that it wasn't even a surreal dream like the kind that makes no sense when you wake up. In my dream, I learned about the signing the way I ususally do. My phone buzzed and I checked it and it was the signing. Perfectly banal. Even now it feels more like something that happened than something I dreamed.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Why not just sign K-rod? Exactly. Papelbon's not a bad pitcher, but K-Rod or Soriano would cost much less than Pigf***er's $13M salary.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Exactly. Papelbon's not a bad pitcher, but K-Rod or Soriano would cost much less than Pigf***er's $13M salary. It flies in the fact of everything we've been told about the Jays payroll situation. If they can't sign a prominent free agent unless they heavily backload the contract, how do they suddenly have 13M per season for Papelbon in 2015 and 2016? It also, as you mentionned, flies in the face of reason because that should be more than enough to sign K-Rod.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Rafael Soriano xFIP 3.92 (1st Half 3.58 and 2nd Half 4.42) Meh, ERA and FIP were both low 3s. I'm not suggesting we marry him, but I'd be fine with him on a short deal, preferably with options. I didn't realize he was so old, though.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 You're better than this Ang. Detract Janssen for his last 25 innings and not to Soriano?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Detract Janssen for his last 25 innings and not to Soriano? I love you Ang.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 You're better than this Ang. He's really not...we just give him the benefit of doubt occasionally on account of his Mexicaness
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 See if this wasn't Ken Rosenthal I wouldn't give this rumor any credence. Kenny is thorough
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 See if this wasn't Ken Rosenthal I wouldn't give this rumor any credence. Kenny is thorough I can only assume that Toronto had some interest but no intention of taking on all the salary. I must say, talented or not, I'd pretty much hate to have Papelbon on the team I root for. He's such a tool.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Does he still come out to "Shipping up to Boston"? That alone would drive me nuts.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hopefully we soon get a RP or two.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Why not just sign K-rod? -0.6 WAR last year for K-Rod....ouch!

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 -0.6 WAR last year for K-Rod....ouch! Like JFaS said, that's not really representative of the quality of his season.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Like JFaS said, that's not really representative of the quality of his season. Yeah I know - just fun with numbers. I'd welcome him here on a 1 year deal with a club option
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I'd rather go after Pat Neshek. Give him a one-year 3-million offer with the closing gig to start the season. Way cheaper than Papelbon and we don't have to give anybody up.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I blame whatever website I was on that listed him as a free agent.
