SexyNewForum Verified Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 It's just based on final standings. Holy s***. I didn't realize how young and impressive that Cleveland rotation is. So much pitching in that division
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Probably even on the field. Yeah lol I was thinking the same thing. Alot people are really overvaluing both Melky and Happ
SAAviour Verified Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 It's probably very close to even, with an extra 10 mil or so and a draft pick. Having said that I'm predicting Happ has a pretty damn good year in Seattle.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Having said that I'm predicting Happ has a pretty damn good year in Seattle. Happ is coming off a pretty damn good year, he was basically best case scenario Happ in 2014. I think with regression, it's probably a wash.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 White sox fans are delusional: If shark is anything close to what he was last season then this might be one of the best rotations in baseball. Then you add two bats to the middle of the order and two stud relief pitchers to the back of the pen... Talent wise I just don't see anyone better in the division... and After the addition of Melky, what team in MLB is better than the White Sox on paper? CF Eaton LF Melky 1B Abreu DH LaRoche RF A.Garcia 3B Gillaspie ss AR C Flowers 2B M.Johnson Sale, Samardzija, Q, Danks, Noesi Rodon, Webb, Jennings, Putnam, Petricka, Duke, Robertson What team is better than the White Sox? We're better than the Tigers or Royals in the AL Central and better than the Red Sox or Angels. The White Sox have a good offense, good rotation, and good bullpen for a balanced team. God that lineup still sucks.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 "what team in the MLB is better than the White Sox on paper?" Well, most of them, for one.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 don't forget he's somewhat different pitcher. More fastball usage and a higher tick on the fastball. I haven't forgot. I'm just not really buying into it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 White sox fans are delusional: and God that lineup still sucks. That lineup is still trash lol.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 That lineup is still trash lol. Yeah I don't understand how they think that they have a good lineup. We could subtract Bautista and we'd still have a better lineup than them.

We could subtract Bautista and we'd still have a better lineup than them. You could subtract Bautista AND Goins. Our lineup would still be better! But jokes aside, that rotation's top 3 is pretty sexy. Sale, Quintana and Shark. Not as nice as other teams, but still pretty damn nice. I am jelly.

Yeah our rotation could really use a nice addition like Shields
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 The bigger ballpark will take number on his offensive numbers, he squeaked many HR's and ground rule doubles in Rogers Centre last year and in Chicago those are outs or maybe just singles off the wall because of his speed. Add in the much bigger negative impact playing in a larger LF will have and he will probably regress back to just a 1ish WAR player.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 who wants to bet $20 that Saunders and Estrada outWAR Melky and Happ? Im betting they don't
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 who wants to bet $20 that Saunders and Estrada outWAR Melky and Happ? Im betting they don't Collectively they will probably both perform roughly the same with Saunders>Melky but Happ>Estrada, the key here is we are getting that production from $8 million while Happ and Melky cost ~$21 million.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Pick + Saunders + Estrada > Melky + Happ? Not on the field but yes in accounting Should you not have included Lind??

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Should you not have included Lind?? No, Lind's option would have been declined anyway
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 First rounder can get you first rights on someone like Stroman. And teams trade prospects all the time. I wouldn't have traded D'Arnaud plus Syndergaard + a low minors prospect for Dickey, but the Jays did it. I guess I just don't see the difference in trading a draft pick or a prospect.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Would someone please compare Estrada and Happ over the last 3 years? I be no good at these things.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I wish Cabrera well with the White Sox. I applaud him for the year he had following the bad year he had in 2013. I still say the Jays got it right in going the way they did. The only thing that's a bit questionable so far is trading Lind for Estrada, but it may very well be that Estrada was the best offer they got.

Well, I think they planned on using Happ as trade bait to improve other areas. Although, they should have kept him in hindsight if they don't add a legitimate #1 or #2 starter. I like Happ + Cabrera a lot more over Estrada/Saunders. I would have dumped Lind for a reliever instead. I don't believe Estrada was the best offer they could have got, because they could have waited a couple of weeks until more teams had a better idea of the direction their team was taking.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Its clear from this deal that AA did not want to sign Melky. Huh? Ever think it was Melky didn't want to sign here?

IIRC, Estrada was decent as a reliever last season. I do agree that they planned on using Happ as trade bait all along since they had SP depth. However, I like Estrada/Saunders plus extra $$ over Happ/Cabrera, but we'll see how it turns out. Regarding Lind, you could always come up with scenarios in your head where he would've gotten you more than Estrada, but the fact is that if another team wanted him badly enough, it could've just beat the Brewers' offer. Who knows really, but I like the overall look of the team as it has a better balance between run production and run prevention.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Huh? Ever think it was Melky didn't want to sign here? At the end of the day, the Jays offered 3M less than he ended up signing for so it looks like a fair offer to me, give or take a M or 3.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 If Melky had come down to 3/45 sooner, he might have signed with the Jays but if he really didn't want to play on the turf than there was really no reason for him not to ask for the moon. He got virtually the same deal and he's on grass so I suppose he's happy and if the Jays run with Norris/Saunders they probably won't miss Melky/Happ anyways. Everyone's better off.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 At the end of the day, the Jays offered 3M less than he ended up signing for so it looks like a fair offer to me, give or take a M or 3. Not as clear cut. As far as we know, the Jays offered that amount a long time back, way before we got Saunders. That offer could have been on the time right up until the moment we traded for him. And at that time, at least when Cruz was signed, we read that Melky wanted 4-5 years. So it's entirely possible that the Jays offered 3/39, with internal discussions willing to go higher, but they did not want to wait for Melky. And when he demands 4-5 years, I don't fault AA one bit for shutting down the negotiations since it was hampering his other deals. He pulled the trigger and got the cheaper and better player in Saunders, and Melky was left to focus on a smaller pool of suitors.

I have absolutely no issue with Cabrera waiting for the best deal he could get. All I'm saying is that the Jays' reported offer of 39M over 3 years was pretty bang on, as it turned out.
