Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I loved when Theo Epstein laughed off a Papelbon comment and called him an idiot publicly. If I'm targeting a reliever from the Phils to close, I'd much prefer Ken Giles.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Just collect a bunch of failed starters to fill out the pen. No need to spend a ton of money on someone like Papelbon.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 "The*Blue Jays are still looking to the trade market to bolster their bullpen and*will not spend up to their full capacity just to add whatever new arms they can, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. While there is still a possibility of a low-cost free agent addition, Davidi explains that the Jays look*increasingly likely to go with internal options while keeping an eye out this spring or even into the season for improvements." Nothing new, just updating.

Gorlak Verified Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Who knows, that's just Davidi speculating. Click bait, bro. Gave me "internal options at second flashbacks", Just hope AA's position on reliever volatility doesn't mean he thinks all his scrubs have a chance to be Wade Davis.

I highly doubt that, he was in on talks for both Holland and Paplebon.
Westfan Verified Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I would think he is waiting for someone to fall cheaply into his lap be it thru trade or free agency. Even if Delabar comes back the pen is still ugly. Talk all he wants about Sanchez in the rotation, the way this BP is Sanchez is bound to be needed in the pen.

Stroman gonna lose a bunch of wins due to the 'pen. He gonna feel like Stieb.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I thought, and still feel, that Sanchez will start the year in the rotation, but AA doing absolutely nothing with the pen gives him a logical reason to start Sanchez in the bullpen with Norris in the rotation. That's fine if all the starters stay healthy all season, but in that scenario, the depth starters are Estrada, Hendriks, Francis, and Oramas. That's not pretty, and Sanchez isn't even a guarantee to be a good reliever next season.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 What do you guys think of signing Moogy to be our closer. Nasty Knuckle Curve, he's kinda old...but he's in tip top shape should be able to pitch until at least 75.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Why not acquire more dirt cheap arms of the waiver wire. Sure we will blow 5-6 games in the first half but so what We may find a gem after going through 6 or 7 arms
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 5 guys with projected FIPs under 4 in the pen. (7 if you count Estrada and Norris) Cecil 3.07 Loup 3.60 Lopez 3.79 Guilmet 3.88 West 3.98 Anything under 3.80 is pretty darn good, right? 3.07 for Cecil is stopper FIP.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Anything under 3.80 is pretty darn good, right? 3.07 for Cecil is stopper FIP. FIP and ERA are scaled to look the same, so a good ERA is the same as a good FIP.

Should be good with that if we can get a 7th inning guy for Navarro. Don't see why we need much more.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Who's spot is Norris taking ? He is not bumping Hutch or Stroman!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Who's spot is Norris taking ? He is not bumping Hutch or Stroman! even though you're a troll, this bears repeating: the 6th and 7th starter on the depth chart typically pitch between 18 and 25 games between them. That's not small potatoes. Norris likely the 6th starter, based out of Buffalo, and Estrada the 7th based out of the bullpen.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Holy f***, I woke up panicked because I dreamt Toronto traded Stroman for Matt Wieters. Felt so real, what a relief.
