GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/espn-deducts-four-wins-2015-record-cubs-being-cubs On "SportsCenter" Thursday, ESPN tried to quantify the impact of Joe Maddon and Jon Lester coming aboard, giving the team a combined 21.37-win lift. But then they went full ESPN. Never go full ESPN. Let's just ignore the random commas in "Cubs, Being, Cubs." Where did they come up with that total? So the North Siders are going to lose 4-5 extra games in 2015 because of Cubbie occurences or ... the curse or ... ? Baffling. But honestly, what's stranger is crediting Maddon at adding 16 wins to this Cubs team. It's borderline impossible to quantify a manager's true impact on the win-loss column and Maddon is more than just his in-game/lineup decisions - he's capable of creating an atmosphere where his players feel comfortable and can achieve their highest level of production. But 16 wins?! That's insane. You're talking 1/10th of the season. Maddon is responsible for bringing an 84-win team to a 100-win team? C'mon, now. I'll say it again: Never go full ESPN. #analysis For those who could use a laugh. I enjoyed the extra specific decimals. If it has two whole decimals it must be super duper accurate.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I think CSN is missing ESPN's very average attempt at humour
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Best thing about that is "Cubs, being, Cubs -4.37 wins"
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 This is riotously funny
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I think they're just trying (and failing) to make fun of WAR.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Nothing to see here folks. Back to the greek buffet AA.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Maddon has 4 WAR glasses.

Governator Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 But can Maddon ship penguins to Chicago? There is value in that somewhere.
