Great financial flexibility so they can sit there and look at all the money they could spend if they ever choose too but won't.

Not spending any money is the new market inefficiency...

This is where Oakland should be, buying Jim Johnson and trading for Jeff Samardzija reminded us of that. They're efficient and very well structured, but once they start spending money they're like anybody else and prone to the big mistake.

With Montero being traded, who can we pry from the Dbacks for Navarro?

AA needs to prove he's a ninja still. Needs to either acquire Paul Goldschmidt or Archie Bradley! Anything less and he's lost his magic.

But jokes aside, maybe someone like Oliver Perez for the pen?

Each year, I'm surprised to find out he's still in the league

That guy was like Ricky Romero.

Hopefully Ricky figures it out...for an NL team.

Royals making Infante available

If Infante had played SS since 2010, he would have been intriguing as a super util guy but as it stands, a 32 year old 2B only MI coming off a career low isn't so sexy. He might bounce back but we thought that when Izturis was signed and he was the same age Infante is now.

Best thing to do is sit and wait the Royal out. If they are throwing Holland and Infante out while saying they want a starter back it pretty much means they are going to be left sitting around until the market passes them by where they will then be forced to take scraps for them since the financial flexibility is more important to them going forward than getting a “good deal” is.

I know I shouldn't complain given the moves AA has made already, but I am feeling like this right now:

I was going to say that he reminds me a bit of when we got Izzy when we got him..... I think with Izzy and more then likely Travis getting the call sometime this season (most likely start of season) i think you have to look past it and look for some arms....

I wouldn't be impressed with AA if he ignored the same red flags a second time (loss of defensive vesatility and value, age, declining bat).

Yeah I don't want Infante at all. That contract is pretty gross. I just wish there was a better stopgap option than Izturis/Goins. Both are likely worse than replacement at this point.

I would say right now it is Travis spot to loose..... Just by the way Gibby was talking about it anyway. I think if he has an pretty average camp he will be on 2nd.

Travis hasn't played above AA, and Pompey has something like 100 ABs above AA. It depends on how they look in spring, but giving them both starting gigs is completely stupid.

Everyone is of course loving the top 6 in our line-up, but the bottom 3 has the potential to be downright awful.

7. Smoak

8. Izturis/Goins/Travis

9. Pompey

That has rally killer written all over it and it gets worse if any of the top 6 go down for any length of time.

Still lots of needs on this team imo.

Three weeks ago, the Jays had three good bats. And then they got Martin. And then they had four. And then they got Donaldson. And then they had five. And then they got Saunders. And now you like the "top 6".

How about we just wait.

Trade Complete:

Also, did Reddick get a call from A's PR or something?

That is one bitter dude. I don't think he's long for Oakland (not that it didn't already seem to be the case).

EDIT: He seems to be trying to make good of the situation, but I feel like he's already made his feelings loudly known.

Not if they are the best players. Yeah, its very risky but that is probably better than the alternatives. Izturis is garbage and Pillar has been a disaster against RHP.

Jeferson Mejia is pretty good. I wonder what the D'Backs will do at catcher.

The hope for a few weeks has been that whenever they got rid of Montero, they'd be a potential suitor for Navarro. I hope that winds up being true. Diamondbacks fit really well as trade partners for the Jays.
