glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Better than Kenny Williams. Why would they require compensation? The job would be a promotion from what he has currently, no? He has a contract with the Orioles (same situation as Farrell). They won't let him go to Toronto for free.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 If I was the Blue Jays I would say screw you to compensation but good luck having your GM who has said he wants to leave to a division rival stay and run the team. Nah, just pay the compensation. If you think you have the right guy to run the organization successfully for the next decade, and he actually wants to come, the mediocre compensation that typically gets paid in these situations should be an afterthought.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 This is such Blue Jays news when you think about it. Finally the Jays have a great offseason and then something like this happens... Watch AA get fired after he finally comes around.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Give them Ricky Romero and save us 7.5m
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 It won't take a lot to get him. Go look at what the Red Sox got for Theo. They gave up a scrub named Chris Carpenter.

Sure if its some scrub minor league player. Can he not just resign from his current position and leave anyway?

The compensation is only a matter of protocol. Ryan Goins or s*** RP.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Sure if its some scrub minor league player. Can he not just resign from his current position and leave anyway? It would probably be like a Steve Delabar or Andy Burns type.

Finally the Jays have a great offseason and then something like this happens... Watch AA get fired after he finally comes around. Both Duquette and AA were with the Expos years ago so no doubt they already have a relationship. Maybe AA is recommending Duquette.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Tony LaCava for Dan Duquette, LaCava was their first choice anyways.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Both Duquette and AA were with the Expos years ago so no doubt they already have a relationship. Maybe AA is recommending Duquette. Yeah thats true. History suggests though that the new president almost always has some sort of a "regime" change. Sometimes they will wait a year or so to see what they have but it rarely lasts.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Is Duquette a good gm? I haven't paid attention to the orioles, and everyone says they overachieved. Kept his teams competitive, made some nice deals. Had some trouble resigning players with the Red Sox, which makes me a little nervous w/ Bau and Edwin's contracts coming up, but that was a long time ago and he did resign Adam Jones. He's certainly better than Kenny Williams. I dunno, I think a Duquette/AA combo would work well.
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Neither are the kind of innovators I want running the Blue Jays... On the flip side, Beeston is rock bottom. It doesn't get any worse than him.... Let's do this.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I like this, but I think I'd probably like any AL East GM taking a position with the Jays. He knows more about the Orioles top-to-bottom than anyone else probably does. Is Duquette a good gm? Duquette's a good GM. Ryan Goins for Dan Duquette? Don't know why this made me laugh.

Spoonovic Verified Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/145519-Blue-Jays-interested-in-Duquette The way that the O's fans are crying about Duquette leaving makes me want him more. They are suggesting the Blue Jays are scum for waiting till the winter meetings to do this. Some are also asking for Sanchez in return for DD.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Which realistically does f*** all for us How does it do f*** all for the Jays if Duquette was in the middle of all of their transactions and trade talks, knows exactly what players the O's had on the block, and has knowledge of who the best minor league talent is in the farm system? http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/145519-Blue-Jays-interested-in-Duquette The way that the O's fans are crying about Duquette leaving makes me want him more. Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 They can have Izturis for compensation.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 O's Fans For the records that franchise is a disgrace. Steal signs, steal personnel, hell they cant find their own talent so they just poach other peoples. Makes me sick Good old Blue Jays. Like a kid in a candy store with too much money and has no idea what he likes. So he just gets one of everything! Make them take Ubaldo's contract...lol. I think the idiots on that Toronto board are going to be surprised. My guess is that MLB really does not want Angelos revving up the law machine. With the timing of this and completely unethical and unprofessional manner in which the Jays did it, I get the feeling we will end up with something better than they expect.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The funny thing is that they don't realize Duquette didn't do them a disservice by not resigning Cruz and Markikis
