In 2011-2012 most of his value came from defense. His offense was league average.

Not sure how he's a better option than Goins et al.

Maicer Izturis was a replacement level player before his major knee surgery. He's just a sunk cost and nothing more.

 

At least Callaspo is healthy, a little bit younger. He's a marginally better replacement level POS!

Callaspo is somewhat intriguing but he really shouldn't be a consideration this early in the offseason. Someone who could slide to SS and make room for Travis at 2B when the inevitable Reyes injury happens would be far more desirable than an offense only 2B who hasn't actually supplied any offense in two years.

Let's face facts. Unless Travis is ready we will have another year of s*** at 2 nd base and if your going to play s*** it may as well be the s*** your already paying.

Why? I don't understand you guys. He's a small but not insignificant upgrade over the garbage the Jays are trotting out there right now. No team has good players at every position, but they can patch the holes as best as they can.

Free agent market largely sucks ass for infielders though.

- Clint Barmes is interesting only because he can actually play short and he'd be super cheap.

- Kelly Johnson is preferable to Callaspo IMO because he's actually got some pop, and he might offer a bit more flexibility with the recent OF reps.

- Mark Ellis was a popular SABR target last offseason but he's even older than Barmes, and he had a really bad year.

- Rickie Weeks can't play the field anymore, so he's not even really an option except in the most dire circumstances.

- Lowrie is a pipe-dream. Too good of a fit and he might get like 3/$30.

- Asdrubal Cabrera is similar to Lowrie (but worse).

- Stephen Drew? Didn't hit in 2014 so he'll probably 100% sign as someone's shortstop, for his own sake.
