reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 that steamer you seem to post about so often has hutch projected to post a 4.12 FIP next year and Miller to post a 4.2 FIP and Miller posted a 3.61 SIERA in 2013. I would say that's relatively close, or maybe that steamer you mention quite often is way off base. The thing is, Miller is clearly has a higher ceiling. I do not even think that's debatable. But as we often see talent doesn't pan out.
Hawkins Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Not with the way the roster is constructed. I'd rather use the 14.5 million and just sign Melky.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 First 4.12 in Toronto = 1.9 WAR over 173 IP 4.20 in St. Louis = 1.0 WAR over 173 IP Second, Steamer also assumes both catchers have league average framers catching them. The point is they are both young pitchers. Their body of work isn't large enough yet. They are both good young pitchers projected to be mid rotation guys....they could both end up being a bit better or a bit worse than that, but I don't think you can say one is definitely far better or worse than the other. I'd take Hutch myself. I think he has better command of his pitches and I like his mental make up...but time will tell.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Yeah I voted a knee jerk yes but I'd change my vote if I could because once you break down the contracts, it doesn't work. This
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I'd rather trade Sanchez for one of the Cubs infielders.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 It's a purely hypothetical scenario. Had they not made the Heyward/Miller trade, it would make sense for them. Just assume that there are no other factors involved, and only judge the trade itself. I misinterpreted this,(didn't really read your OP...) if contracts are involved, I'm on the fence. Upton would surely upgrade the wins this season, but at that cost, I'd have to say no. Unless AA had a chance to talk extension. Tough call, if they want the prize they probably would. It's all moot anyhow. Good topic.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I'd rather trade Sanchez for one of the Cubs infielders. Russell > Baez > Sanchez =/> Alcantara
Brenner Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 No way you give up Hutch right now, he could be the Jays best pitcher next year.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Braves shopping him, asking price said to be higher than for Heyward.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 No way you give up Hutch right now, he could be the Jays best pitcher next year. How about for Mike Trout
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
