Yep, no serious winning team has a rotation with a bunch of question marks and a hope that certain players hit their ceiling fast, or even hit it at all.

KC went to the world series with Guthrie, Vargas, Ventura and Duffy. There are certainly some question marks with those guys. Sure, another starting pitcher, preferably a top end guy would be nice but with all the prospects at that position we should be allocating money to areas in which we have replacement level players and unproven youngsters- O.F.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Uh, and some guy named Shields. Guthrie and Vargas are Dickey and Buehrle. Stroman is Shields? Actually, Stroman was way better than Shields last season.

We are not KC, and 1 example does not make a rule...This team won't sniff playoffs with this pitching staff. KC's also had one of baseballs best bullpens, we don't. Apples and oranges, oh and a guy named shields.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 It has the potential to be a well above average staff with Norris and Sanchez in the mix and the depth to keep it above average even if the kids don't work out. They're nowhere near as bad as you're making them out to be. The addition of Martin makes the whole staff better. Rarely does everything work out, especially when it comes to Potential. Potential means not there yet.and I don't see sanchez or Norris being ready to be a starter. I never said it was terrible just too many question marks and not good enough to win it all. If we are relying on a first year starter, and 2 rookies who are unknowns, that kind of only proves my point.
immature Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Potential also means possible. Pillar/ whatever do not have the potential to be contributing baseball players and provide wins for this team. If Stroman under-performs or gets injured and Dickey starts acting 40 we still have guys like Estrada, Nolin, Norris, Sanchez and Graveman who can come in and provide one or two wins if not more (Norris/Sanchez). If we spend money on pitching and leave LF with a Pillar platoon it will be an error in priorities. With Melky or Aoki in LF, this teams offense and defense #Martin are good enough to overcome a slightly below average rotation.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Take it to the bank in 2015! Oh, and Shields threw nearly 100 more MLB innings than Stunted Stroman last year. That's kinda important and stuff. Lol. Shields threw 100 more innings but was worth less value than Stroman and you want to say Shields is more valuable because he threw more innings...Logic.
READERsince2006 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 i would sign lester and trade burhele for a reliever, lester/martin signed long with young arms filling in the rest from 2016 on

That's kinda important and stuff. Shields threw 100 more MLB innings because Shields first game was pitched in March; Stroman didn't get his first start until May 31st, exactly two months later. He had 20 games started in 2014 as opposed to Shields' 34. The fact that the club didn't give him the opportunity to start soon enough to reach the innings Shields' threw is not a mark against Stroman. He was as valuable as Shields in 100 less innings pitched. Moron.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Oh and I will take it to the bank in 2015, the same way I "took it to the bank" in 2014, back when you were the f***tard that said Stroman, Hutch, Happ and co. would have a hard time combining for 1 WAR.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Sparky, you claimed Stroman was "way better" than Shields last year. He wasn't. Whether that was because of lack of opportunity, or some other reason, he wasn't "way better." Moron. Let's see how Stroman does over a full season of facing MLB batters, some of whom have now actually faced him on a couple different occasions ... before anointing him as this year's version of Shields ... or better. Because only a moron would prematurely anoint. Just like you did when it came to predicting Stroman's success or future home (relieving or starting)? Moron Moron Moron

You posed a rhetorical, tongue-in-cheek question of "Stroman = Shields?" as if Shields was significantly better than Stroman in the previous season, when he wasn't. Now that you've been caught out like always, you're back to tucking your two incher between your legs and running, like always. Oh and hey, didn't you say you were done with this forum, regardless of if you were temporarily banned or not? You should change your forum handle to "Beta".

If we are relying on a first year starter, and 2 rookies who are unknowns, that kind of only proves my point. Things have been going right for Rays in terms of pitching for about a decade . It is possible for young pitchers to work out. What does certainty in the rotation mean? The O's spent 15 mil a season on Jimenez and he was crap last year. You have to spend a lot of money on the few guys who can provide certainty. Every staff has question marks going into the season. Will this starter who was great last year have a bad year this year. Any winning team needs some guys to surprise, to stay relatively healthy and have your stars play well. Stroman, Sanchez, Norris and Hutch are talented guys....you need a couple of them to work out of the next few years.

Don't get me wrong, I love it when women get aggressive, but didn't you have a panic attack the last time I called you a bitch and now you're making fun of people's dicks and calling them a "beta"? Time to take a look in the mirror!

No one expected him to be great. There are guts out there that are as close to a certain things going ad you can get.

AA will look to go cheap in the field as he is also looking to upgrade the pen. Hence be prepared for Suzuki and Denaforia signings ahead! both should cost less then 12 mill to sign give or take a couple mill.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Lester is a fantasy. So is Shields, Scherzer, etc. These guys will get 6 and 7 year deals. The Jays wont go there, and have eliminated themselves, for better or worse, before the game started when it comes to these guys.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 How many accounts do you have? That last comment was directed at Smokey. Should we call you Smokemoogy or Moogsmokey? Ben Smokemoogy has a certain ring to it lol. This makes sense. Having multiple accounts to agree with himself, and then idiotically confusing the two seems commonplace for a sociopath like Moogy.

King Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 King is Moogy. Moogy is Dogg!

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Sociopath seems a little harsh. Definitely Narcissistic tendencies though. If sociopath seems harsh, then you haven't been here long enough.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Right?!? You seem so well-adjusted. Please elaborate on my vagina status ... "Oh, and ... on that topic ... most guys look at vaginas with some combination of joy, wonderment and desire. Do you now look at me that way? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Or do you view vaginas negatively? Not that there's anything wrong with that." Does this have anything to do with your wishful location of being in my bedroom? I don't have the tights, but I'm sure with some boxer briefs and my, by using my wife's eye shadow collection, we can whip up a faux Ultimate Warrior look for you. I'll be gentle. you're trying too hard
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 you're trying too hard That's pretty much just what he does, natural born try hard
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Good one! Trade-mark Moogy
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 If you can't see how it could be construed that way then you're nowhere near as smart as you think you are. I didn't accuse you of anything. I asked how many accounts you had, 1 being a perfectly acceptable answer. He isn't though, is he? He tried to imply that responding to multiple people in one post is "dumb", inadvertently and ironically proving what a moron he actually is by not realizing that multi-quoting is actually a main feature implemented in literally every forum in the world, and can be found at the bottom right of every post. "Responding to multiple people in one post" is basic forum etiquette and actually what people are supposed to do. Multi-posting for each individual response, while a popular practice here, is actually seen as spamming or post-padding in almost every other forum. He thinks that using complicated jargon and sucking his own peepee all the time makes him look like a smart contrarian, when really he comes off as a tryhard neckbeard hipster with a far bigger attachment/dependency to this forum than he'll ever be able to admit. I remember seeing someone's post here a few days ago where they were joking(?) that Moogy is Andrew Stoeten. I didn't even need to think about it for five seconds to realize what a perfect comparison it was, and how it might actually be true. Stoeten seems to have an irrational hatred towards these boards for someone who doesn't post here, so it wouldn't be surprising if he actually does.
