TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I really think the Blue Jays are taking the idea of Lawrie playing 2B a biiiiiit too seriously. I'd rather leave Lawrie at 3rd and sign someone like Jed Lowrie to man 2B for much, much less money than Pablo will get to be someone's half-decade 3B. Don't worry when options 1 and 2 fail that will happen

jayswin11 Verified Member Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I would love to see Rogers open up the purse strings for the next 2 years, sign Martin, Sandoval, Melky, Shields, trade for Kendrick. I know it won't happen but I'd love it.

LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I would only sign Pablo if their were stipulations in his contract regarding weight loss, in 2011 he was in great shape and had a phenomenal year, the next year he showed up to camp as if he ate his agent and his performance has been in a slow decline ever since.
Key22 Verified Member Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 The thing to remember is that the GM lists FA's in an order of preference. If the GM feels the team needs a bat - he tries to fill the holes. Maybe Martin is the first choice but maybe no amount of money will get him to want to play here so you go to the next guy on the list. Not to mention that the Jays are on everyone's no trade list like Kendrick. The problem is that the Jays need to probably land 4 star caliber players one of which should be a legit shut down ace. I don't see the point of putting together a team that makes the playoffs only to get swept. They need a shut-out capable shut down ace(preferably 2). Someone to replace Jansen, a 2b, a CF, a LF, a C, a DH, and a 3B no made of glass. The team is bleeding at too many positions and the payroll is too limited to fix them all. The ship is the Titanic.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I would not pay the 6 years he wants to keep him at third more or less because is body is not in the greatest shape ever (round) and i don't think he would hold up to a long term deal. If they move him to first however he would be alright but he has not OPS'd over .800 in a few years so that bat really does not play for the position. I think you could save the money and spend it somewhere else. Unless you get him on a four year deal (i doubt) then i would not really even consider it.
