Here's a question

Why do IFAs wait until the following season to make their debuts? Eloy Jimenez signed in 2013, didn't debut with the Cubs until 2014. That's one example of many.

Guerrero has an agreement with the Jays as of October 2014, but is it possible he won't even debut until the 2016 season?

17 year olds in the American rookie leagues are relatively rare (average league age is 20). 16 year olds basically don't play affiliated ball unless it's in a foreign league like the DSL (and even then, there might be one or two).

Ya the Jays gear is pretty obvious.

Ang, what spot in our top prospects is he?

He's very raw, but IMO Vlad Jr is top-6

Norris

Pompey

Sanchez

Hoffman

Pentecost

Osuna

Travis

Castro

Urena

I'd say 10th at best. Pretty hard for me to put a 16 year old bat-only prospect ahead of any of those names.

Of course, by the time he signs, Pompey, Sanchez, Norris, and Travis all have a chance to be off the prospect list, more or less.

So baby Vlad has no defensive value? Let's hope he doesn't s*** the OF corners or I won't feel too excited about him.

Miguel Sano kind of guy :)

Is it fair to assume that a teenager that is limited defensively will only become more so over time? Seems like a player that young would still have considerable room for improvement athletically but I don't know enough about scouting and development to know if that's a thing that ever actually happens so I'm asking the question in all honesty.

Only two International hitting signings I can think of that debuted in their teams top 10, before playing in the mainland, were Sano (number 4 for the Twins) and Ovando (number 10 for the Astros). Ovando is a great example of why we should temper expectations.

baby Vlad still has a few more years to grow bigger. I'm afraid he will end up like:

Another july 2 stud Starling Heredia (CF + ton of pop)

Love his BP swing. The way he loads is like Bautista/Donaldson.

In game, much less impressive though. Much less force, flatter, more abbreviated finish... more like a choppy Rajai Davis swing.

Yeah, it's almost as if he's just 16 or something

If they're considering obliterating their spending limit, they need to pursue this guy. Looks like baby Bautista in BP. Great name too.

This is what I fear won't happen. If you're gonna do it, then go all the way. I fear the jays will half ass their 'no limit spending'

You're probably right, unfortunately.

Even if they "half-ass" it, its still better than the alternative of just sticking to slot...

No, not really. If they break their limit and handcuff themselves for the next two years for one guy, it's not better than actually hitting slot for three years.

Yoan Moncada, here we come

This guy is gonna get big bucks....there is no timetable as to when he gets the okay to sign but it will most likely be way before July.
