Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 He may even be a better player than Melky. Getting Saunders on the cheap to plug into CF or LF is what a smart value-conscious team like the Rays would do. Saunders seems pretty ideal as a Melky replacement. He's cheaper, younger, more versatile and he has a more balanced skill set. Yes and yes but.........................we are talking about injury prone 28 years old guy with 92 wRC+ so far. I know he's Canadian, but he needs to put all his s*** together ASAP or "BUST"
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 You could say this about all large contracts? Let me say I should've added "solely on the GM" to that sentence. Also, it's been reported that Arte Moreno was front and centre in negotiations with Pujols's camp when that contract was handed out. Same with Hamilton's. There are some really dumb contracts given out by GM's, but owners and team presidents should share the blame for such bad decisions.
Vdubfan Verified Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Yeah i could see them liking Lind. I wonder if we could expand the deal to try and swap Lawrie for Seager too. Adam Lind, Brett Lawrie + Sanchez? for Saunders and Seager. This deal would have zero chance of happening. Ms are in win now mode in need of offense, and Seager for Lawrie is a big step back for them. you can't trust Brett to be healthy, and Seager is a better hitter anyways. Their whole offseason purpose is to go find a RH bat, so I'm not so sure they'd be as pursuant of Lind as other teams.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Ugh. Just saw Saunders' numbers against lefties. No more platoon players. Players with pronounced splits really aren't so bad when they have defensive value. It means they can still contribute when they forced into the lineup against wrong-sided pitchers. On the other hand, it's hard to get a read on what kind of fielder Saunders is. His numbers are all over the place.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 No doubt, but who puts their neck on the line, it's just how it goes?! For sure. But owners should also be held accountable for not firing these supposedly "incompetent GM's". It's no different than any company, the buck starts and stops at the very top.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 If the Blue Jays could somehow get a Saunders+Miller/Taylor/Ackley package, that would be huge. Offseason offensive shopping list essentially done. I'm not sure the teams line up very well though. The M's would probably have some interest in Adam Lind, but he's not worth very much at all. They don't really need any arms...
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 And the M's have had back-to-back winning seasons They were 20 games below .500 last year. Do you fact check at all?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Jack Z is such a colossal moron.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 The score ... Moogy 2,746. The rest of the board ... 1. You are the Washington Generals of the posting world So am I the only poster you've ever conceded defeat to? God I feel so honoured.

Adam Lind, Brett Lawrie + Sanchez? for Saunders and Seager. I wouldnt trade lind for saunders, the guy is a terrible hitter. Gose and pillar alone are just as good if not better
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I just think that Saunders doesn't offer us enough flexibility. He's not a good CF and can't hit lefties. Only the passport is a great fit for the team. Unless of course he's platooning in LF with Pillar, Gose is moved and Pompey is our starting CF.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I've wanted Saunders for a few years now. The injury history scares me a bit (and with AA making comments about being wary about injury history going forward, I can't see it happening), but I think he'd be a great fit. Do Gose for Saunders straight up, and give CF to Pompey.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 It's hilarious that some Blue Jays fans still live in a world where Gose has decent trade value.

To be fair, his defence goes a long way so he's a useful 4th OF, meaning there's probably some team out there that would trade a decent cheap RP for him.

They don't really need any arms... I've always liked Saunders a lot for some reason (not even the Canadian one), so I'm all for it. I would LOVE to get Ackley from them for the simple reason that they have hurt his value casting him as a LF. He can be an above average 2B and I think the bat comes around.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Anything that keeps Gose/Pillar out of my goddamn centre field next year is a-okay in my books. Well it would still be both would it not? Saunders LF Gose CF Bautista RF and Pillar 4th OF to.start the season. It would mean neither Pillar or Bautista would ever cover center which is a good thing. Pompey probably plays his way up next year displacing Gose or Pillar.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Yeah I could get on board with this Money saved to sign Hanley Ramirez or Asdrubal Cabrera and some relief help.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Yeah I could get on board with this Money saved to sign Hanley Ramirez or Asdrubal Cabrera and some relief help. Rasmus most likely never coming back to TO. Cabrera probably gets a QA and declines. I hope that Pompey has a monster fall and maybe plays some winter league. He could be a better option for CF. not quite as fast as Gose, but smarter player and hits better than Gose from both sides.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Do you think a Saunders + Gose puts up a combined WAR greater than Melky + Rasmus++ of this past season? Forget the argument that it saves a few bucks for other areas, it's irrelevant to me if we're not improving.

It could be about even honestly but I think a Saunders/Rasmus/Bautista/Gose combination is the best way to go.

For whatever it's worth (and certainly not expectation on Rasmus moving forward), last year Saunders + Gose put up 3.2 WAR in 537 PA, while Melky + Rasmus put up 3.2 WAR in 997 PA.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I don't have a problem with giving Saunders a chance in LF, since he can play all three outfield positions. He's still young, and he'd be hitting in a much better park.
