********. Guy is dumb as dirt. Has a ton of trouble with da Engrish. Really bad at forming a logical argument. And statistics is supposed to be his wheelhouse, but he totally f***ed up applying them to the world of finance, in a way I'd expect from a high school kid with no exposure to statistics. He's the most obnoxious, but not even in the top 20 of brightest intellects on the board.

Not too sure why I'm responding to this as it's obviously just an attempt to bait me into some long drawn-out thing where you can get off crafting 2,000 word responses that nobody reads.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure you're alluding to a couple of posts I made months ago where I said something like "risk management is more philosophy than math in complex domains" and how things like the Gaussian-Copula, Black-Scholes (+ extensions), VaR and others are destructive examples of trying to shoehorn reality into a model rather than vice-versa. Given that you're an MBA with insecurity issues, this offended you greatly as such pseudo-intellectual tools made up the majority of your "technical" Bschool education. The resulting tirade was for the most part not even wrong. If the first sentence of this paragraph still reads as nonsense, I sincerely feel for anybody you may be running money for.

Speaking of physics, I'm still wondering if you could clarify for us why the term "General Theory of Relativity" was invalid despite it's common usage among subject matter experts (ie people who do real science). I'm guessing it's closely related to your insistence that the general theory has nothing to do with the speed of light and how it's completely unrelated to special relativity.

And if you want to talk about statistics, expand upon why you think JFAS' preseason projections were so awful (something you've been rattling on like a lunatic for the past month or so). What testing did you do to come to that conclusion? Do you even know how you would test his projections? How do they compare to the yet to be linked to Moogy projections?

Borrowed from Mr. Cole Porter (with the noted change of "voodoo" to "doodoo")

That's what made it wordsmithery (I got the original reference and appreciated the appropriate, yet subtle, alteration...)

Can you guys stop voting for me? I'm not foreign and Ang's funny pictures and accidental jokes due to broken English make him a way better poster anyway.

It has its pros and cons like any city. Im usually there 5 or 6 times a year but from my experiences the pros are:

Downtown everything is close

Some pretty good bars

Down by the lake is really nice in the summer

Cons:

Winter is terrible, seems they get the most snow of any city outside Ottawa

Besdies Frontenac and Queens games there are no sports.

Nothing to do really

I agree with all the pros, but everything being close is really just a byproduct of a small downtown. I do appreciate that I'm a 15-minute walk from my building on campus, less than 10 minutes away from a handful of great restaurants and bars, and a block away from the grocery store. But like I was saying, it just has that small college-town feel about it, and it's not for me. The last ~6 years I was living in Kansas City were spent in the urban core, so I'm just used to much, much more density, in both architecture, and people. The lack of tall buildings here really throws me off, which I know is a byproduct of a small city (granted, one apparently filled with yokels who hate anything tall and/or modern). The tallest building in Kingston wouldn't even crack the top 40 in Kansas City, a city not exactly known for having a large number of tall buildings. There's even a roller coaster in KC that's taller. And a World War I memorial. And a f***ing flag pole.

I lived in Ottawa until I was 15, so I was pretty young, but I don't remember any winter as bad as the one we just had in Kingston, except when we had the ice storm in (February, I think) 1998.

Last year's winter everywhere was pretty terrible so it wasn't really just Kingston. Like Ottawa's winter last year was worse than Kingston's. Kingston's tallest building is what 12 stories? Just the culture shock of going from KC to Kingston must be huge.

Yeah, that's what I heard. I'd kind of gotten used to fairly mild winters in KC, so to come here and have to endure Kingston's winter from hell was not much fun. I think the tallest is around 16 or 17 stories, but that's still pretty short to me. I'd spend a couple years in a smaller college town in Missouri, so I thought I had an idea of what I was getting into. But while I had a lot of friends there, I knew no one when I moved here, so it was a pretty rough time.

Worst thread of the year: The consolidated deadline thread because for awhile it was just TwistedLogic complaining that there was a consolidated deadline thread

Best thread: the Minor Leagues/Prospect is just a ridiculous fount of information

Poster most likely to make a knee jerk reaction to something: four way tie between Boxy, ECJF, Gruber92 and TwistedLogic

Poster I'd like to see return: Blurnandez (second year in a row)

Oh please. I make one knee jerk thread and now it haunts me. Jon Heyman does that kind of s*** all the time and he makes a good living.

That's nothing. You should have seen the fallout I got from saying that Mark Teahen could play second base. Had to delete my account and start over.
