Head hunting is no way acceptable. Head hunting and crowing about it in front of your dad qualifies as losing your s***. Love the guy but he needs to smarten up.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 The MLB has some kind of hate going on towards us.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Might as well just take it and not appeal. Season is over anyways.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The MLB has some kind of hate going on towards us. They should set an example that it is not acceptable to throw at people's heads. Its not like Stroman's suspension really does anything to the jays playoff chances..

I'm sure Showalter helped push this along also. #madrespect
comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The MLB has some kind of hate going on towards us. I agree about MLB,but in hindsight it was a dumb thing to do,at a dumb time, considering what had just happened in one night to several key players in both leagues. Joseph had no malicious intentions, and the stupid idiot Reyes goes sliding into homeplate, knowing better, and then wines about it to the rookie pitcher, who was probably influenced by that. To top it off,we go into Baltimore, undermanned, and piss them off in their own ballpark. We should have just let it go as a team. Hindsight.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I'm not so sure I'm okay with the idea of a suspension when, despite all conjecture, there's no proof of any kind that that was intentional (particularly given how wild he was for the remainder of the AB... Also, shouldn't Gibbons be suspended too, isn't the "if there's intent, the manager is also responsible" policy still in effect?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Short pitchers with a history of suspensions are now the new market inefficiency...
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I'm sure Stroman chirping the Orioles bench didn't help improve his case that it wasn't intentional. Be mad all you want but all it does is push Stroman's start back one day.

Head hunting and crowing about it in front of your dad qualifies as losing your s***. Love the guy but he needs to smarten up. IMO,he was influenced by an idiot-Reyes,who had no business sliding headfirst into HP,in the first place. We were in prime position to be made an example of,after all those beanballs a few days ago to Stanton..etc.. Wrong move, wrong time. We do hate each other, and this will no doubt continue into next season,or maybe the next time they come visit us here this season..who knows. Them throwing at Melky in our last series in T.O. after we accidentally hit Machado with a curveball, was not forgotten by a lot of our players, and thats how it between these 2 teams. Melky being out now gave us an excuse for retaliating to anything, accidental or not. IMO,thats the mindset of some of our players right now with the frustration etc..
comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Stfu! The only thing he did wrong was lip off on the way back to the dugout. If he'd have let it go I doubt he even gets suspended. Pitches get away sometimes but it's hard to plead that case when you're antagonizing the opposing manager on your way back to the bench. I agree about MLB having a hate on for us. Who are you referring to lipping off,Reyes or Strohman? Reyes was pissed about his hand. Not sure why Strohman was pissed. The way it looked was that we were retaliating to what happened at homeplate. It was kind of obvious.

From his s*** slide last year that put him out of action in KC to sliding headfirst at home and being a bitch about it. Don't even get me started about sitting out to win a batting title with the Mets.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If Stroman gets 6 games for that, I hope the guy who hit Bautista does too. Both were intent.

SJE32 Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Not caring too much by the suspension. Don't want pitchers' throwing at batters' head, but it's about time a starting pitcher for the Jays attempting to protected his team mates. Last Jays SP to do this that I can remember was Todd Stottlemeyer, maybe Boomer Wells. As great as Doc was, he never did. Jesse Carlson threw at Jose Posada. Stroman is a rookie, but among his team mates, especially their leader Jose Batista, he has climbed the pecking order.
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 A rookie headhunting needs a good lesson here and I hope he learns from it. His reaction back to the bench was all that was needed to confirm his intentions. Defending him is not quite the equivalent of Machado's bat slip incident but the same lesson needs to be taught.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If Stroman gets 6 games for that, I hope the guy who hit Bautista does too. Both were intent. One was thrown at the head, one was not. One guy chirped after, the other guy didn't. That is why one is being suspended and the other isn't. Plain and Simple

Stroman is a rookie, but among his team mates, especially their leader Jose Batista, he has climbed the pecking order. After the "Ha" ******** that Rodriguez pulled, Towers plunked him... Arod got all indignant, and Towers pointed with his glove at first and you could distinctly see his mouth form the words "take your f***ing base". My favourite Josh Towers moment, not that there were too many to choose from...
SJE32 Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Yes, forgot about that one. Towers did have a streak to him.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Obvious or not, Stroman doesn't get suspended if he doesn't piss Showalter off lipping the dugout as he walked off the field. That did not help. My guess is Stroman was just showing support for his team, and was reacting to the criticism from the Orioles bench. Should be a good learning experience for the Stro..
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 One was thrown at the head, one was not. One guy chirped after, the other guy didn't. That is why one is being suspended and the other isn't. Plain and Simple One missed, one hit as well (and I doubt Stroman was aiming for the head). I think you only punish based on the intent. Both were clearly intentional, so punish both or punish neither. If the chirping after by Stroman was initiated by him, then tack an extra few on. For all we know, he was responding to something someone was yelling from the Orioles bench (although he shouldn't have regardless).
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Something was definitely said to stroman while he was walking off, thats why he chirped back.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The MLB has some kind of hate going on towards us. Kind of been going on for 20 years now since the last time we won the series and baseball fans on the US shattered Since the mlb makes sure that there is no chance for TO
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Something was definitely said to stroman while he was walking off, thats why he chirped back. Yeah He was told to know his role by Schowalter. When he looked to Gibby for backup Gibby was busy looking for lice in Dickeys beard

Also, shouldn't Gibbons be suspended too, isn't the "if there's intent, the manager is also responsible" policy still in effect? I hear what you're saying but if you want to protect the players, I think you have no choice but to connect the dots and make assumptions in cases like these because it's not like you could ever 100% prove intent. The fact that it was Joseph at the plate, it was behind his head and that Stroman doesn't miss the plate by that much even when he's off is more than enough to make the leap. You can't have pitchers throw at people's head. Someone could get killed. If the cost of policing head hunting is that an innocent pitcher gets punished unfairly from time, that's a more than fair price to pay IMO (not that I think Stroman is innocent in the first place).
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 who cares if he is suspended. he's had enough work on his arm anyway.
