So you're saying I should tell them about bunting?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Evidence? They are 14-18 this year and have played in the fewest one run games in the AL East and pretty low total altogether.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Ok? And? There are times when even Joey Bats and E5 can help the team by going the other way. A righty that pulls and gets outs doesn't advance anything. When Bautista goes into his stretches where he tries to swing the bat so hard that you know he's only thinking of home runs, the team doesn't benefit. Players have to do more than hit home runs. Striking out less and putting the ball in play more couldn't hurt either. They're still good players, but I think they could even be doing more with their outs. Bautista and EE both have elite-low K rates for power hitters. I don't think you know very much about baseball so I'm going to terminate this dialogue by leaving now.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 It's no secret. Look it up yourself. So the burden is on me to check your assumptions. Nice way to hold an argument.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 It's hardly an assumption, it's a fact. If you want proof find it. If you know it to be a fact than you must have proof of your own no?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 There's only one person in this thread living in a fantasy world and that person is.... Jaysblue. This thread all of a sudden has turned into a slideshow of hot smoking women. In other words, I'm sure there are people fapping to this thread right now lol.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Chris Davis could bunt every second PA and as long as he had millions in the bank he'd still have a wife like that. http://img.zanda.com/item/40020360000098/1024x768/Sarah_Jessica_Parker.jpg Chris Davis would have a wife like this...
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I think with that picture posted above - people have stopped fapping to this thread.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Ya I do. Every year when i'm watching the Jays games and they show their putrid win/loss record in one run games. Well that's nice but not terribly helpful in this context. Since you asked me to look it up, I'll just assume that you don't know where to find this information either.

I'd bet that the Jay's haven't won more one run games that they've lost in any year in the last decade. And yes,i have no idea where you'd find these stats. The 2003 Detroit Tigers had a winning record in one-run games. Clutch that!

Seeing as its dumb having Bautista and Edwin bunt/sacrifice, what else are you advocating against in regards to small ball?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Seeing as its dumb having Bautista and Edwin bunt/sacrifice, what else are you advocating against in regards to small ball? I assume the absurd notion that either one should stop playing to their strengths (pulling the ball.) If these morons like highhardon69 and others are putting this partially on Bautista and the lack of crafty bunting, they should really learn what baseball is and how to play it. They never bring up defense, or the fact that half the lineup is garbage most nights, or the fact that the FO likes to invest in inefficiency. Nope, the Jays didn't make the playoffs because Edwin and Bautista keep killing rallies by cranking moonshots to left and getting on base instead of slapping singles to right and then trying to steal bases. They should also bunt more, because bunting is the best!

If a team is playing the shift on a hitter who has the ability to go the other way, I don't see why the hitter should continue to try and muscle a ball through the shift. Do I want Bautista or Edwin bunting or trying to steal, no. Do I want the other less than hitters on the Jays doing things other than what Jose and Edwin do? You're damn right. And it doesn't mean bunting all the time or employing a hit & run all the time.
Vincent Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I couldn't really see either being any worse than being a semi retarded hermaphrodite like yourself. I find those kind of insults lacking because they're too far-fetched, just call him dumb... that way it'll hit him close to home.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Why can't the Blue Jays play more small ball? They usually can only score runs when they hit home runs and when they don't hit home runs..they can't score and can't win games. They should know they have to play small ball more often then not to score runs which they would have learned how to do way back in Little League baseball as kids. Why does it seem they forgot how to play small ball? It would have really helped them out. I agree, although I prefer to call it smart ball instead of small ball. I think the Blue jays were playing smart ball in May when they were winning so many games. There is definitely an opposite to smart ball, which I will call dumb ball. For example dumb ball is: 1) Swinging for a home run with a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth or bottom of extra innings when the Blue Jays just need a run to win. Swinging for a home run usually doesn't result in getting a sac fly with hitters such as Gose and Rasmus - it usually results in a strikeout and the man eventually being left at 3rd base. 2) Players getting a green light on a 3 - 0 count and then swinging at a ball out of the strike zone. I can only think of a couple for now, but if I watch a Blue Jays game I can usually spot several examples of dumb ball. There was one real head-shaker when John Farrell was manager - bottom of the ninth and the Blue Jays need 2 runs to tie so he gets the batter to sacrifice a baserunner from 2nd to 3rd (I think I remember it correctly?)

nextyear Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The jays were mashing the f*** out of the baseball in May. There was none of your "smart ball" Not really. They were doing both. Once a team gets ahead by playing smartly home runs become a bonus that gives them a big lead.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 A good example of dumb ball - Reyes just being picked off second after a Jose Bautista ground ball. Who can say a team can win playing that way. Luckily they were bailed out this time by a Edwin homerun. Still, examples of dumb ball have become prevalent during the second part of 2014.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The jays were mashing the f*** out of the baseball in May. There was none of your "smart ball" If you have guys in the lineup that aren't mashers, they better be doing more than trying to hit bombs. And it better involve trying to get on base or moving runners along.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Goal is to maximize runs generated. No doubt, and is not the highest correlating statistic to run scoring on base percentage?
